A hum, especially with that powerful of a system, is pretty much standard... if it's too loud you can *try* to send it in for repair, but they'll probably test the HW and send it back to you with the same noise since everything is working fine. Perhaps open the side and turn it on and see if you can figure out where the whine is coming from? Is it the hard drive? Is it the video card? Is it the CPU fan? If you find out, you can tell HP technicians that ____ piece is making the noise and it's highly unusual, and they may send out a new piece for you if they can justify it (since it is, after all, working, they may not be able to).
If it's brand new, within 21 days from the website or within the retailer's return period, perhaps try to get a new one shipped out to see if it's any quieter, but that would be fairly time-consuming for you, I understand.
Another thing you could do is ensure to have a fair bit of ambient noise while you have your computer running, for example, a loud fan or some music. I'm really sensitive to high-pitched noises myself though so I understand how frustrating it can be
