External USB Floppy Drive no longer works

I have a Model #: p6710f Desktop HP computer running Windows 7.

I had bought myself an external  Bytecc USB Portable Diskette Drive (Floppy). Although it did not work initially, it began to work a week later after running some updates on my computer. The floppy drive work for at least a year since then.

Now within the last month, the floppy drive does not show in the list where you find the drive C or the drive D. You can hear the floppy drive respond when it is first plugged-in, but it does not show on the screen where you are able access it.

Is there anyone that is able to understand why the USB floppy drive not want to work with my computer? What is it I need to do to resolve the issue?

Re: External USB Floppy Drive no longer works

OJay,

The first step would be to check in Device Manager for any Red or Yellow flags on the USB controllers.

Re: External USB Floppy Drive no longer works

There were no red or yellow flags of any kind in the Device Manager section. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Re: External USB Floppy Drive no longer works

Hello OJay,

Try uninstalling the drivers for your floppy drive. Rebooting Windows, and then allowing the computer to reinstall the drivers.

Post back your results after you've done that.

Re: External USB Floppy Drive no longer works

Thank you for your reply. The uninstalling the driver, restarting the computer and reinstall process... I had already tried this a few days ago. Although the computer recognized the floppy as new hardware and load the driver, I still was not able to access the floppy. But here is the weird thing...

My desktop is where I was having this issue. Just yesterday, I connect the floppy drive to my laptop for the first time. The laptop recognized it as new hardware and load the driver. I was able to use floppy on the laptop. Out of curiosity, I disconnect the floppy (USB connection) from the laptop and reconnect to the desktop. The desktop recognized it as new hardware and load the driver. I am now able to use the floppy on the desktop. Weird as this is... my issue of getting the floppy on the desktop to work is now resolved.

Ojay,

Glad you was able to get your issue resolved. Strangely, I would add, but resolved nonetheless.
