Fan noise at wake up

After doing some searches, I find that fan noise is a problem posted about en mass. My problem surfaces a little differently than what I have seen from others.  I can run for many days without issue, then suddenly the fan will come on super loud at the very moment I wake up the computer from sleep mode. I once let it go to see if it would eventually turn off and it did, but not until after a long time. The noise is unbearable, so I choose not to wait and I reboot the machine. After reboot it comes up silent and runs that way until the next episode.  It's not so frequent that it's a major disruption, but is a disruption all the same and shouldn't be happening.

To be clear, it is not an overheating problem. The machine is not very old and I have the side off the machine. Obviously some situation arrives that triggers the fan, but I do not know what.  I first thought it happened only when there were updates awaiting installation, but the last time that was not the case.

To be clear again, fan issues like this appear to be many and common with HP computers. There is something going on and I don't want any simple and useless advice about cleaning the fan and such. What is causing this and why hasn't HP addressed it?

As chargined as you are, I waited a few days to see if anyone wanted to tackle your premise.

1) While others know of the issues with the M2N78-LA board, that is a constant cycling issue. What is your HP model?

2) Have you tried turning off sleep mode (just for a few day, as a test).

3) Having the side off actually disrupts the intented dynamic airflow (front of case to the rear exhaust). Your scheme allows air to immediately enter and exit, and not draw air across the motherboard sensors.

Here are 2 utilities that might help give you some answers.

CoreTemp:http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/  if will create a logfile of the CPU temps. You dictate the intervals.

HWMonitor:http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html realtime fan rpm monitor. It will tell you which fan ID is surging.

I have EXACTLY the same problem with my HP P6342. with a MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard. The side of my computer is NOT off. I am a very experienced user and the unit is always kept clean. My core temperatures when in operation run between 38 and 46, generally around 40-41.

Seems like heat is NOt the issue! However, I will keep a log using the Core Temp app and see what happens when I put the machine to sleep. Unfortunately, the problem does not occur every time. Intermittent problems are the worst! LOL
