I have an older HP Pavilion a450n desktop PC. I am about to install a memory card for my cell phone that says it can take an 8GB card. I'd like to use it to transfer files from my cell phone to my PC. I'm a beginner at this, but I suspect my PC is too old to accept an SDHC card. I assume I would insert the card (in an adapter) into the MMC/SD slot. Is this correct? Also what is the maximum size it will take?

Review the specifications for your PC. You are correct, SDHC is not mentioned.
I would go with an external USB media reader. They are cheap and will do the job.

This is a quick way that might fix your problem without having to spend any money. It worked for me on both my panasonic and hp notebooks. http://www.ehow.com/how_4890805_card-reader-sdhc-c
