HP P7-125 desktop & monitor won't "go to sleep."

[ Edited ]

New HP Desktop P7-1258 running W7/64.  Neither unit nor monitor will "go to sleep" after predetermined time of inactivity.  Have set times on appropriate page but doesn't recognize; leaving unit fully on unless manually put to sleep.  Any suggestions?

Hi,

Go into the Control Panel --> Power Options-->Select Balanced --> then click on restore defaults.   Let's see if this changes the sleep behavior.

If the PC will still not go to sleep then you might have an active program running in the background keeping the PC active.  Review all of the software that you have installed.

Disconnect the PC from the network (wired and wireless) and see if that makes a difference.

Re: HP P7-125 desktop & monitor won't "go to sleep."

Tried all things suggested - still no luck.  Finally called HP Tech Support.  After about an hour, she asked if I was using a wireless mouse.  I was, an older Microsoft unit.  Removed it, connecterd the supplied HP USB wired mouse, and problem went away.  She advised that there were issues sometimes with wireless mice.  I'm wondering if it's because of the older mouse I was using.  Can't believe a new HP won't accept a wireless mouse.  More to follow but problems solved for now. Will check out a new wireless mouse. Thanks for the info.

Tried a new Microsoft Wireless mouse, "3500."  Works great; unit sleeps as set.  Guess the "old" technology of the prevous mouse" was the culprit.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back to us with your success.:smileyhappy:

I had a MS wireless mouse and had too many issues with it besides eating up batteries..  I switched to Logitech.
