Re: HP Pavilion dv3000 series

It appears that upgrading the DDR2 memory modules is about all a normal user can do.

The memory sticks that you buy for the upgrade must be guaranteed compatible memory. I strongly suggest that you purchase memory from a major brand (i.e. Kingston , Crucial, OCZ ) Go to their website and use their memory configutaion tools/menu to see what they have available for your notebook.

Upgrading the CPU is only for techs or hardcore enthusiasts to do. Disassembly of a laptop does require a certain level of skill and patience to avoid damaging the laptop.  Upgrading the video is not a viable upgrade option as the laptop's video output is part of the chipset and soldered onto the motherboard during the manufacturing assembly process. There are a few high-end laptops, like the ASUS C90, that has DIY upgrades for video and CPU upgrades as an option. The ASUS C90 might just be the only laptop on the market that offers this sort of flexibility for consumers.
