Currently i have a HP Slimline s3220n that has some crazy problems :
- Nothing displays when power is cut on. no POST
- Reset CMOS and dismantled everything, Put it back together and everything worked.
- Kept the PC on overnight. Woke up next morning to a dead PC
- PC will not turn on again...will power up, but no booting or BIOS screens.
What i want to know is, Is this a motherboard issue, or a power supply issue ????
i want to know if there are issues with the Asus M2N61-AR motherboard.

I am not aware of any motherboard problems. As you are no doubt aware, the Slimline models don't have very good airflow. Therefore, I have to believe there is an inordinate amount of heat developed. I would put my money on the PSU, before I would suspect the motherboard.
This is just my opinion. I don't have, nor have I ever had, a Slimline computer. I have simply helped allot of people who own them on this forum.

For starters remove the memory and reinstall it. If that does not help remove the TV Tuner card and try it without the card to see if that helps.
I own a S7700N slimline but I've never had any issues as of yet.(fingers crossed) I have noticed many have had some small issues with heat but I would just about bet it's the PSU also. Is the light on the back a steady green? If it's flashing that is for sure an indacator of being a bad PSU. Have you blown the dust from the two fan openings in the PSU? There's one on the back and one inside towards the front and is hard to see the fan slots on it.

I believe that motherboard or powersupply.. but have you go bestbuy to check it what is cause? they will test your power supply if its dead or not.. they will not charge you for test. thats what I did. I was thought its powersupply, but I was wrong. they said motherboard is dead and need replace. yuou should give a try..
Good Luck! ![]()

Do not take your computer to best buy. It is not a power supply issue. You either have a RAM, CPU, Heatsink, and possibly a motherboard issue.
Take out the ram, turn on the computer. If the motherboard beeps the motherboard is fine.
Clear any dust out of the chassis. Do not use your vaccuum cleaner, do not touch the motherboard with water or cloth, USE CANNED AIR.
Once all dust is clear, reseat ram, and reseat the power cables from your fans to the motherboard. Also, just to be sure, make sure your ATX power connection is properly seated as well.
If the issues still persist, replace the ram.
If you are able to get into windows for an extended amount of time and still have the hp software installed on the computer....run a CPU stress test in the hardware diagnostic tools.
If your processor is failing, new slimlines start at 429.99.
Regards.

I just cleaned the dust from the CPU heatsink in my s3220n Pavilion Slimline desktop, and the disk error problem I had is fixed so far. Bought it 11/2007, and it did not have much visible dust except for the heatsink.
[disclaimer: do not attempt this at home, professional driver, closed course]
It would either not start up (stuck on screen with cursor at top left) or attempt a disk error recovery and sometimes boot into Vista before locking up again.
I also removed and replaced the data and power plugs on the hard drive & DVD drive, so it might have been a bad connection (not too likely, since there's a latch that locks the HD data plug in place).
When you open the case, dust on the heatsink can be hard to see since it's blocked from view by the fan. Remove the fan from the plastic frame that's on the heatsink by removing the 4 philips head screws at the corners of the fan. On my PC, the heatsink fins were almost completely blocked by a thin mat of accumulated dust.
I vacuumed this off and replaced the fan on the heatsink. After closing up the case & powering on, the system booted up to a maintenance screen, ran disk repair automatically (for about 15 minutes) and then rebooted into Vista OK with no errors. It also seems quieter now. My guess is that there were bus errors due to the CPU overheating. Hopefully this will also speed up things as well!

Let me give you the answer you're looking for.
Some HP slimlines computer are manufactured with a specific motherboard called Hematite ( i believe it's called) that are known to sometimes have video/no boot issues.
HP is aware of this and they replace the motherboard with better one (same model but one without these issues).
So most/all hp techs should know they need to replace this motherboard and the pc should be sent in to hp.
Is the pc still in warranty?
Try calling them and ask if you have the Hematite motherboard.

We have had similar issues with an s3220, but terminal. When it was opened up we discovered that the plastic housing holding the heatsink in position had cracked around the retaining screws, allowing the heatsink to spring up. Presumably this resulted in the CPU overheating and packing up. I suspect the plastic housing had deteriorated because of the heat in the rather confined pc case. Seems to be an intrinsically poor design.
I should be interested to know if others have had this problem.

Hp states the s3020n is out of warrenty. They recommend that the faulty motherboard (no video) be replaced for 240.00 or you can buy a new piece of HP sure to fail hardware for 299.00.
To add insult to injury I asked to talk to a supervisor and they stated there is no one there to help me. Remember this next time you hit the stores. I am supposed to call back in a hour to get a supervisor (maybe).
If they knew the hematite motherboards were faulty why didn't they recall?
