Ours was out of warranty too - but not by a great deal. A definite case of putting this one down to experience. I never buy product insurance and have saved loads of money - but occasionally you lose out. To be fair to HP, we've also had some HP kit - printers, scanners, tape drives that have gone on successfully without ever breaking down before becoming obsolete.

With my experience, HP products have some problems as soon as the warranty is expired.
I will never buy any HP products again.

actually to be honest it could be a heat sync problem....its the most simple and easiest to fix, but causes most of the problems you have listed.

Same problem on 2 Pavilion slimlines where 2 of the CPU fan mountings broke close to the motherboard. One dead CPU and the other will fail. The springs through which the mounting screws pass seem to be far too stiff for the plastic.

The blue power light will not come on. Some times it will and some times it will not.
