Re: HP Vs Dell Questions

Which Is Best Server brand for Proformance?

I am a lover of HP and Dell Servers, but HP is the best to me when it comes to not having raid drivers issues.

I have had less issues with HP what about IBM any take on IBM's Server, I use to love them back in the days haven't pay with them in a while.

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions ?

Hopefully, I can give you a fair and balanced response. I do software engineering (for food), but I know my way around the inside of a PC (most things electro/mechanical, in fact). However, I'm not a gamer and at this stage in my life (also a "senior"), I have no desire to build my own system, even though I could. For years, I was a "Dell guy". While I've heard stories about the lack of support, I think, sadly, that's a universal complaint across all vendors and industries. Since I can usually handle my own (rare) problems, that hasn't been a factor for me.

I bought my first HP system, a d5000t running Vista Ultimate, because HP offered the best preconfigured system that matched (exceeded) my requirements. It's funny, but I had purchased an HD video camera (got a "great deal") but the H.264 video processing demands simply overwhelmed my aging Dell system. So, $1800 later, I guess the camera wasn't such a good deal after all. :smileyhappy:

I went back to Dell for a replacement, but couldn't find a system with the right options, HP had just what I wanted. Later, I decided I wanted a combination media server and "display engine" for my primary large-screen TV. Again, I went to Dell for the first look. This time, I chose an HP d5200t with Windows Vista. Not long ago, I upgraded that system to run Windows 7. (I had some minor display issues that I quickly resolved with an updated ATI driver.) I am very pleased with my two HP systems. The bundled HP Advisor and diagnostics tools are a couple of items that, I think, distinguish HP from Dell. Would I consider Dell again? Probably, but I'd sure give HP an even chance - probably even the first look - based on my experience.

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions

Hello. I am looking for a new laptop and I'm not quite sure which direction to go. Since you are the experts I was hoping you could help me. I recently had a dell, which after three years is falling apart. I am looking for the best laptop for my buck. the best performance, speed, reliability, storage, etc. There are just so many options that I'm not quite sure where to go. I am a nursing student, so I need a lot of the basics for writing, word etc. but I also love to watch movies and play video games. I'm thinking either a 13 or 15 inch screen size with a i5 processor. I have noticed that some of the laptops on this website have free upgrades to 6GB for storage, like the  HP Pavilion dv6z Select Edition series, but I also like the DV6-3150US. I am wishing to stay under 1000. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Michelle Morgan

[ Edited ]

Hi, Michelle: I personally am a fan of the HP business notebooks. They are durable and have some nice features. The newest model with what you seem to be looking for is the 8440p. Here is one on NewEgg.com within your price point: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157331 For a little more you can get one with a discrete graphics adapter: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157389. Here is a review with pictures: http://www.digitaltrends.com/laptop-reviews/hp-elitebook-8440p-review/

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions

This is my first post, I hope it's okay that I ask a question in your post.

I am also a Dell owner, but need to finally upgrade my 8 year old desktop.  I originally started looking at Dells, but then someone told me to look at HP desktops that their quality is way better.  Now I'm torn on what to do.  I saw this one at Costco:

HP

But, I have also looked at this one at Costo which is a Dell:  Dell

I know there are some differences ie:  i5 vs i7....I'm just not a techie person to know if I should get one over the other.  Any suggestions?

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions ?

Dear Friends,
My career is techni-colored when it comes to COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS or COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS. However, I love

PARAMETERS and NUMBERS. It's the kind of life dictated by my chosen profession. I

have worked for Dell as a direct employee and I am now working in a partner company

of HP. I was given training in both products and processes of both computer

companies. In this kind of questions, I believe every conclusion will be just

emotional and subjective unless I can see NUMBERS posted side-by-side with some

measurables (which I call PARAMETERS).

My favorite is MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair). Come on guys, the world is analog no matter how we digitize everything. SHOW SOME NUMBERS, not just DOLLARS, then

lets draw the INFORMATION from them.

Best Regards,
TEDUinManila

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions ?

I had bought an HP Pavilion and within a couple of weeks, the CD/DVD drive went bad. Technical support was fantastic. I had to ship the unit back to HP. They paid shipping and supplied box. It took 5 days from the day I sent it out to when it came back. No complaints at all about their service. I've had no problems with the machine since. I would definitely consider another HP.

Re: HP Vs Dell Questions ?

I have owned both a Dell and an HP. The companies are basically the same. Just so everyone knows, No one (name brand computers) actually "make" computers. They assemble computers. Tons of trailers back up into their docking bays and whoever they get the cheapest price for components gets unloaded. Now that being said, my Dell which is now 11+ years old still runs with all its original components. My HP on the other hand (now only 3+ years old) has a new MB and case. Now this wasnt due to HW failure but, due to the fact that HP sent a bad BIOS update out that locked my computer in the BIOS screen. After going round and round with HP because thier company policy is not to send out BIOS flash discs and dont have the file availible for download, I was forced to go out and buy a new MB and case or ship my system back to HP and pay them $279 + S&H to replace the MB. Other than that I have no issues with either company.

By the way Dell and every other major manufacterer has the original BIOS that came with your computer availible for download on their website. HP is the only one that doesnt do this.
