Homemade DVD will not play

I made a DVD on a DVD Player/Recorder.  It plays fine on this DVD player and on another DVD player.  however, it will not play on my PC (which is P6210 with Windows 7).

Windows explorer actually says the DVD is blank (zero items).

Any ideas?  The DVD player manual says something about "codec" but cannot find anything about that on the HP support site.

Hi,

What type of DVD did you make and what type of media did you use?  Look at the media types listed under optical drive.

What is the make and model of the DVD/Recorder?

Some of the offline DVD/Recorders record in a propriety format which could be a problem.

Go to the Control Panel ---> AutoPlay and check the box at the top. Look over the media actions and then select the type of action (program to be launched) for the type of DVD that you created. Now save the changes. Now insert the disk.

Re: Homemade DVD will not play

I made on a DVD-R disc.    I used a Toshiba DVR620KU video recorder machine.

Toshiba customer service said it should be able to be played on PC if the PC had the right codec.

Auto Play box is checked.

Hi Beth,

Did you follow all of the instructions such as those listed in this article?

If the Toshiba customer service representative is saying that a codec is needed then ask them which codec.

Big_Dave,

Your right on the mark. Step 9 explains it. Same with my JVC deck, you have to finalize the media.
