How do you lock and unlock FN key?

Hi, I have an HP Pavilian DV7 laptop, and I wanted to know how to lock the Funtion key. I have seen in other websites that they say to simply hold it, hit fn + num lock, fn + F11, and fn + scroll lock, but none of those work for me. Can someone please help me?

Go into the BIOS and you can change the setting related to the function keys. This will cause you to hit the fn button when you want to use volume and brightness but they will function as regular fn buttons otherwise.

i know this is late but i have this prolem.. when i go to the BIOS it says that the action key modes is enabled but my computer acts like if it was disabled.. can you help?
