How much power does my HP Pavillion P6 2020A use?

[ Edited ]

Hi there

I have looked every where for this answer and cant find it any where. I have looked a specifications etc online as its not in paperwork that come with the PC.

Model name: HP Pavillion P6-2020A

CPU : AMD A4-3400 Dual Core 2.7Ghz (I found on AMD website CPU is rated at 65W)

Other specs on know of with my new desktop PC are it has a 300W power supply and runs 4GB of RAM.

I have logitech speakers Z130 & LG Flatron LED monitor that use a max of 18W so that's fairly low from my understanding.

I know my Plasma 50"' TV for example is rated at 137W (in normal home mode which is the setting I use) and it draws 0.4W in stand by.

Does HP put at the info im after for the Pavillion? If not any way I can guess to mate it fairly accuratley?

Thanks in advance

JJ

Hi JJ,

This wattage meter will be accurate on the line side (at the electrical outlet) of the PC.

PCs are all configured differently so using a meter is the best way to get an accurate reading of the power usage.  You will find that PC usage will determine the power consumption.

Unless the load is a light bulb, its electrical consumption is going to vary based the task it is doing. Your 50" plasma TV rating looks low, as most 50" plasmas are rated between 300 and 500 watts. Even with the dimmer light output of more energy efficient plasmas and an equalized display, the typical ratings are between 210 and 400 watts.

As far as the computer is rated, open the case and read the sticker on the power supply... it should have a rating like "Amps 5.0/2.5 @ Volts 120/240", that is about the same as 600 watts. Your power supply will have a different set of Amp ratings than my example. This is the maximum rated consumption of the power supply. Daily tasks will use less than the maximum. To know how much energy is being consumed by a particalur device, you would need to attach a watt-meter to the cord and monitor the usage displayed.

I agree it does sound low @ 137W at normal home mode for a 50" plasma but its fair dinkum as us |Auusies would say. Below is link from Panasonic website.

As for unscrewing box and looking at PSU is there any otherway? Besides a power meter and yes I can fully appreciate that pending on PC task power draw will fluctutate. I was just after an idea eg say at idle and general web surfing / internet banking email etc. Belows is more details of PSU from HP specs without unscrewing the box to loook for more detail. I also now that the graphics card as a maximum power rating of 25W and AMD a4-3400 CPU is rated at 65W and LED monitor rated at 18W.

Power Supply
Internal 300W (100V-240V)
  • Form factor: Internal ATX
  • Total wattage: 300W
  • Nominal input voltage range:
    • 100-127V/6A (50-60Hz)
    • 200-240V/3A (50-60Hz)

This equates to a maximum consumption of 720 watts. The power rating of the video card and CPU don't directly translate into a value that is comparable to the PSU's input rating. If I had to guess, I would say that in standby it would use around 60 - 100 watts and in normal use around 150 - 300 watts.

Hi,

Use the above recommended wattage meter and there is no guessing.
