Older computer (hp pavilion 364n). Power went out, when it came back on I could not get anything to open back up, so I shut everything down to try the next morning. Still nothing would open by either dbl clicking on the desktop icon or going through the start/all programs route. When I click on what I want to open, the hr glass comes up for a few seconds but then goes away and nothing happens. Any suggestions where I go from here? Did I lose everything somehow? I have a surge protector so I'm protected that way. Everything looks normal on my computer, but I can't get anything to open (documents, programs, or internet). What can I do?

Hi,
Try resoring your PC in Safe Mode. Here is a link on how to access safe mode on startup. After you are in Safe Mode use System Restore to return your PC to a state that was working prior to your power outage. There is no guarantee that this will work for you. Best practice is to have made a backup image of your system that is stored externally. Hopefully that System Restore will work for you and Repair install or clean install of your OS are not necessary.
Regards,
Eric
