Maximum RAM Pavillion 553x ???

I keep getting different answers about the maximum amount of RAM that can be installed in a HP Pavillion 553x Desktop tower. 

I know it has two slots for ram but I find some results that say each slot will hold up to 1GB PC2100 (2GB Max) and some that say each slot will hold up to  512MB PC2100 (1GB Max).

I want to know exactly how much/maximum amount of memory can go into each slot before I order it.

As this MOBO was designed for HP by ASUS (you cannot find it on their website) and the BIOS fine tuned by HP, 512MB per DIMM seems to be the answer. You can try 1GB sticks if Crucial or Kingston guarantees compatibility and you might be find yourself enjoying 2 GB of DDR. And maybe not. It is a bit of a crap shoot.

If you go to Crucial.com website; it will take a couple minutes to download their software, and it will tell you what your machine has, and how much it can hold to maximize.

I have the same model, Maximum RAM for the Pavillion 553x  is 1gig

it has two slots for memory, total avail the pc can take is 1gig or ram.

Either buy two sticks of 512 that equals 1gig or buy a 1 stick of 1 gig.

I got mine from ebay

the drive I got also upgraded from the 40 gig to a 250 gig bought from ebay

I got the restore cd's from another place

grand total for was under 100.00 bucks and im loving it, fast and easy install

here below is where you go for the drivers for the pc, and thats if you have the xp home installed as when shipped it was installed with rhe xp home ed. Also after you install your mrmory do the dowload bios from the list of drivers below for this model hp 553x
