My computer is screaming for help!

I've had my compaq presario SR5703WM for about a year now. It makes a noise about 2-3 times an hour that's sounds like a cooling fan but I've heard that it may be the hard drive. It so freaking loud and I want it to stop! Any suggestions on how to fix this myself or do I have to have it taken in?

Kashby, you could save yourself some money if you could locate the sound.  I suggest opening the case and listening carefully to see if you can determine from where it is coming.  Then, let us know.  We may be able to help you solve the problem without taking it to a shop.
