My computer has suddenly started to run on for extended periods. It does this even when it is idle. Has anyone else ever had this problem? What can be happening, and what can be done to fix? My computer is an HP Desktop model a6220n, running Windows Vista-32 bit.

Hi:
Do a control+Alt+delete.
Select task manager and then click on the processes tab. See what processes are running and what one is eating up so much memory it is running onto your HDD's virtual memory.
If you don't see something obvious, try my suggestion below.
I have found it effective to go into the administrative tools>services section, and stopping the Superfetch process, and then setting the Superfetch process from Auto to Manual.
