Need to reset password to get onto desktop Compaq Presario

My daughter is using my old Presario and she logged off instead of turning of the computer.  Now she cannot get on the desk top at all.  Because I can't remember the password I used when I set up the system.  Is there a way to get in - like maybe an admin log on?

If it doesn't ask for a password when you initially log on, then there is no password.  Leave the password field empty and hit enter to logon.  If that doesn't work...hold down the power button until it turns off (5 seconds or so) then power it back on.

If the recommendation previously posted does not solve your problem and you do not readily find a cure, I have found a worst-case scenario answer.

go to www.compaq.com -HP website- and under "problems and solutions" you may look under product information and find the "motherboard" configuration for your machine -enter necessary model numbers- . I have found for my machine's the "jumper" locations to reset passwords that allowed me to correct similar problems. This does require that you access the "Motherboard". Do not attempt this unless you are sufficiently grounded, as it is possible to damage it by accidental static discharge.

You may find easier solutions prior to attempting this as support from knowledged personnel are very accommodating via these forums.

That would be steps to clear the CMOS settings for BIOS/Power-On-Passwords...and is not applicable in this case.

Hi,

There are indeed ways to resolve the lost Windows password issue. I am certain that discussion of which cracks will work and how to use them are seriously frowned upon in this corporate website.  That is why I cannot give you any details. I don't wish to be banned. So...  Do a Google search for it. You will need your shields(firewall/antitrojan/antivirus) up on this one. Only a decent Anivirus/Firewall Suite such as ESET will give you enough protection. Have fun.. Don't you know any serious Geeks?
