I have set my home page to www.msn.com multiple times now, but everytime I do something changes it to hp-desktop.us.msn.com .
I do NOT want this behavior and if I can't get rid of it I will return the PC to the store and never buy another HP system.
This is an ease of use issue...I do not want to have to type entire URL's every time I want to leave my home page. I just want to change the basic domain name.
How do I stop this hijacking?

If you are using IE, then go to theTools tab -> Internet Options-> Advanced and select reset. Then close and launch IE and go to your web site then go to Tools ->Internet Options -> and select use current.

Thanks for attempt, but that did not work. I followed your instructions, but after doing the Reset, when I closed and restarted IE, I then keyed in http://www.msn.com and it was promptly changed to hp-desktop.us.msn.com . There appears to be no way to keep it from doing this.
Ridiculous attempt by HP to control my browsing experience!

UGLY. If you are using IE 8 then go to Tools-> Internet Options -> Delete Browsing History and check all boxes except the top Preserve box. Then click the delete button.
What does the Home Page settings indicate under Internet Options -> General Tab ?

After I followed your instructions "to the letter", it said http://www.msn.com.
I saved the Internet Options, closed IE8, re-started IE8 and...it went to www.msn.com . I have closed and re-opened it several times since and it has worked correctly each time.
Thanks for your (continued) efforts! Your assistance is most appreciated! The problem is resolved.
If you get to Phoenix sometime, look me up...the tacos and enchiladas are on me!

So am I! Thanks again for your assistance, Big Dave!
During the process, I had tried navigating to the same site (hp-desktop.us.msn.com) on another machine and it hijacked that machine as well. I had to perform the same steps to get it back to normal.
HP needs to take care not to do this to customers' machines. This was really not very nice.
Over and out!

I had to go to Control Panel - under Programs heading, click on Uninstall A Program - on the left side, click on Turn Windows Features On Or Off - unclick Internet Explorer 8. Let Internet Explorer uninstall and reboot.
After the computer reboots, go back into Control Panel - Programs - Uninstall A Program - Turn Windows Features On Or Off - and click on Internet Explorer 8 to reinstall. After it installs, reboot the computer again. Your homepage will reset to www.msn.com instead of hp-desktop.us.msn.
The only other option is to choose any other page for your home page other than msn.

I just got a new HP Omni. Lovely bit of kit and I bought this one to see how it looked for upgrading my office. I like to get back to basics so I have to strip all the bloat out of it and I'm ready to deploy except for one thing. I set homepages as msn.com. Why? Because its consistent between all the employees. Now, HP keeps redirecting/hijacking my browser to hp-desktop.us.msn.com. I dont want it there.
I have tried everything I know. Looking in host file, all the IE tricks, regedit and I cant turn this thing off. It's my PC **bleep** it! I want to decide what I do with it.
Anyone have any pointers please. This is really annoying.
Cheers.
