Num lock setting

I am using a HP minitower running Windows XP Pro.  I recently had to do a complete reinstall and cannot get the num lock key to stay on when I boot the system.  Once on the key stays on, but my login in is alphnumeric and it is bothersome to need to press the num lock key everytime I boot up.

How do I reset this?

Re: Num lock setting

Boot into the bios and look for a setting for numeric lock.  You might look for a keyboard driver.

Re: Num lock setting

I have the same problem with my HP HDX X16-1300EO. I have to enable num lock on every startup. But where in BIOS do I find this setting for the keyboard driver?

Thanks!

Hello Humbledore, I believe you can enter the BIOS by pressing the F10 key immediately after the HP Logo screen.

Once in the BIOS, search for the option for the Numlock settings. Most are enable or unable. Use the arrow keys to move your selection up or down and when the Numlock is enanbled, escape out of this menu, save the new BIOS settings and reboot into the desktop. If all goes well you should have the numlock enabled by default.

Since I am not familiar with your specific BIOS, I am not 100% sure this will work, but for most BIOS settings, this will work.

Everyone should be aware that to enter the BIOS, the keyboard key is different on different systems. On HP systems, it appears that most  are the F10 or the F11 keys.

Hope this helps.
