PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! bios, cpu, motherboard

this all started because i wanted to upgrade my cpu. i checked the info for a pavilion 7955 on the hp site to get the motherboard info and everything. there was nothing about a maximum supported cpu so i went by the motherboard and socket info. it goes up to 3-GHz i believe. i got a GHz. P socket 478. after i installed it it was registered as a GHz cpu but still running at GHz. i tried updated the bios after i found out i would need to.amazon bios update 3.11. it wouldnt work. i tried it over and over and with different floppies. nadda. my friend tried various programs, nothing. i called customer support and they had no idea what they were telling but they were atleast american. this was all about 6-8 months ago ish. recently i discovered that there are two boards used on a lot of systems, maybe more. we have the(as far as i can find) the p4b-la. the man asus one on the site. then the Dublin trigem-Imperial 129504 (31891)( it think only the 31891 pertains to the 7955). now the p4b la matches mine nearly perfectly but not quite. the Dublin one was definitely more different. so i figured mine was the p4b la but for some reason did not match the actual motherboard picture.(strikes me as very very odd!) i use Everest home v2.20.405 to help. well under under computer, dmi, motherboard-motherboard specs it says:manufacturer-Hewlett packard, product-Dublin, version-3.06, serial number xxxxxxxxxxxx. I got very lost here!!! in the bios it says core version 4.06 revision version 3.06. well in Everest under motherboard, bios-bios properties: bios version-phoenix, system bios update-9/21/01, video bios update-9/28/00. The of course bios manufacturer-phoenix technologies ltd.now i don't everything but the way things appear right now is that my computer is mixed and that so far no one place or item has the exact right specs!!!!

Re: PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!! bios, cpu, motherboard

The only thing I've been able to find is an machines website. It is the only place that actually has my mother board. The Hp sit does not mention a thing about it in anyway, shape, or form. I even tried online support and was told that my computer is old, there is no updates, and that I should get a new one because they are affordable! I believe I have a T4200 Trigem Dublin Mobo. If that is true how hard was it for hp to mention something? Especially the first time i contacted them, or on the product page? The emachines place has some bios but i dont know if its what i need and the phoenx website wants you to pay for a subscription to get anything. This is all ridiculous! Is there anything someone else already found out that I'm missing here?

.......sorry for the rantish..........
