I would like to get one of those phoenix PC's but they're too darn expensive right now. I think I could build a better pc cheaper.

It isn't cheap right now, you're right. But I have built a couple of rigs myself and I thought about it too before getting this one. It's pretty tough to stay under $1000 and get an i7 2600, 10gb of RAM, 2TB of HDD, a decent graphics card, a good mobo and PSU and a nice case. Plus you've still got to buy Windows 7 for another $100.
Plus there is something to be said about the 2 year warranty that HP gave me with this system. The free 15 month Norton didn't hurt either.
And to be honest, I have two little kids now and I just didn't have the time to mess with it. I wanted to try a pre-built from either a vendor like Origin, Maingear, or Velocity Micro at first.
But Anytime I started configuring a system on these websites I quickly found the price hitting $2000.
I think the base i7 2600 model of the Phoenix isn't too bad at just over $1000. There are always online coupons for HP as well. I found an additional $100 off coupon for mine.
