Problems opening zip folders

[ Edited ]

Hi,

Sometimes I download mixtapes from the internet which are saved in zip folders. I have never had any problems downloading and opening the folders and listening to the music in the folders but today iI downloaded a folder which did not open. An error meesage did appear explaining something along the lines of 'file could not be opened... invalid' but I cancelled the message quickly in order to change the properties. Usually the zip folders open with windows media player even though it has not been set as the default program but this particular folder was set to open with Internet Explorer. I right-clicked and selected properties and changed 'opens with' to windows media player and then clicked ok and double clicked the folder. Windows media player opened and the following message appeared 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file'. And now I went back and clicked on the zip folders that I downloaded previously which played fine and the same message appears.:smileysad: The operating system is Windows Vista. Does anybody know how to solve this?

Re: Problems opening zip folders

You can get WinRar from rarlabs.com and it's free.

For some zipped folders in Vista you casn rightclick it and choose Extract All and extract file to desktop.

But in some cases you need a program like Winrar (which is what I recommend) or Winzip to use.

Re: Problems opening zip folders

winrar isn't free, unless you get an illegal copy, so try 7zip

Re: Problems opening zip folders

Hey I also tried 7zip first but it failed to extract one of the zip files but winrar did the job. Thanks for your help too!
