Why doesn't the "safely remove hardware device" icon show on the bottom right taskbar after making the option in the Notification Area?

In which Windows OS might that be in?
The following image is for Windows Vista and Windows 7. IF you select what is the image then you should see the icon in the taskbar.

You selected show show icon and notifications and selected OK?
Go back to the notification area icon window to see what it shows as the option selected. If show icon is not now the default then do it again and click on OK at the bottom of the window.

Hi!
I'm having trouble safely removing my hardware.. I have an HP pavilion G series. I have windows 7 home premium.. I followed your previous advice about customizing my toolbar.. But when I go to customize, The icon for safely removing hardware is not there. The first icon available is power.. These are followed by- Network, Volume, Skype, McAfee Security Center, Support.com Easy Support (Office Depot.. Where I purchased the computer), IDT PC Audio, Action Center, Windows device installation (this only tells me if it was installed correctly.. After the bubble comes up to tell me that it was correctly installed the icon disappears), WIndows update, Synaptics TouchPad Enhancements, ccSvcHst.exe (Norton Internet Security).. That's all the icons available to appear on the taskbar.. I don't want to mess up my hardware nor my computer..
I also have gone into devices and hardware and tried to manually remove it from that screen. I am able to uninstall it, but I am not able to safely remove it.. Does that mean the same thing??

I did the same, as a test. It did not show up in the taskbar............BUT.......
When I pulled in a USB thumb drive, the icon appeared in the system tray. When I ejected the device, it also disappeared from the system tray.
To say THANK YOU, press the white star on the left, to render a KUDO.
Please click Accept as Solution, just to the right of my reply if your problem is solved.
PS--You can render both Solution and KUDO
