Security Programs

Is it possible to have too many security programs?

I have:  Malwarebytes, AVG free, Spybot, Stopzilla, and Superantispyware

Today when Stopzilla finished scanning I noticed that it had a message:

AVM technology has been configured to prevent performance issues caused by the programs listed below, which you can safely remove.

Here is the list that they say I should remove:  AVG free, Malwarebytes, Spybot

It also mentioned Norton but I don't have Norton on my computer.

Should I do as they are suggesting?

Re: Security Programs

Musicchick,

When you have multiple security programs they tend to conflict with one another. Also when running scans manually you may not get the full story on the outcome of the scan. I would say only use 2 and make sure they don’t protect against the same threats, otherwise they would conflict again.

Hope this helps.

Re: Security Programs

Thank you for your response.

I have thoughts about not re-subscribing to Stopzilla.  So, cancel that one out.

The the ones remaining, I am going to keep AVG free.  Which other one of the remaining would you recommend keeping?

Re: Security Programs

Musicchick,

I would recommend Malwarebytes I personally use that and don’t have any issues with it. Spybot I have’t used and Superantispyware I am not too familiar with.

Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

Thanks

Re: Security Programs

Thanks.  Just eliminated all but AVG and Malwarebytes.

Re: Security Programs

Welcome MusicChick.

RedRose is correct.

The 2 you picked will work great.

AVG has a Resident Shield.

Malwarebytes you must run it.

One other program you may want to look at is "COMBOFIX".

Click on the BLUE download now.

To run it you must disable AVG's Resadent Shield.

Re: Security Programs

Thanks.

I am choosing to not load the combofix at the present time.   I would like to research it more and am wondering about thie statement on the site:

Please note that running this program without supervision can cause your computer to not operate correctly. Therefore only run this program at the request of an experienced helper.

Musicchick,

I understand, and you may want to ask @REO51ST regarding that statement to get the best interpretation.
