Fan works like a champ....better than OEM. I forgot about this thread and just checked it today....LOL. Looks like HP really stepped up to help. NOT. I have not seen an update either. Get the fan, do not rely on HP. How sad is that. Look at their stock performance and their Org Chart....they are a mess....buy the fan, short the stock.

HP told me to replace the CPU fan and it will fix the problem...the only problem is it never worked.
3 hours later and two different technicians...they told me to reformat the HDD...HA...yea right...once the Bios is written in the motherboard...its there for good
Had a warranty with Best Buy so they replaced the motherboard for me and no more issue.
Looks like replacing the motherboard is the only true fix

Wow, so best buy helped you out and helped me out and HP's only answer was to do my fix or reformat the pc....which would have no value add at all. MAN...I am glad I got mine fixed and I hope all others have found peace from the annoying fan robot baby.... I am just dumbfounded that this thread exists in the first place. Shame on HP. The next PC I buy will not be HP, that is for darn sure.

Well, today I have to say I am impressed. I got a call from the President's office of HP. A very nice woman asked me for my opinion on this problem. I was very candid and made clear that I had to fix it on my own time with my own money and I am still in warranty. That said, she listened, was attentive and said she would follow up on the problem. I hope this helps everyone else that has suffered through this, but as I said, I was impressed with the follow up after a train wreck of customer service interactions. Good Luck to all.

Absolutely. She seemed genuinely concerned. Who knows where it goes, but it was an order of magnitude better than the Technical support twerp that told me to go pound sand.... I will post with any further follow up.

Sometimes an unusual thought merits a comment.
My credit cards extended warranty (1) added year for electronics. Does yours? That maybe an avenue to fixing/replacement.
I was also directed to the language of "implied warrranty and serviceability". Not sure if each state has that.
Implied warranty:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implied_warranty

I received a reply from HP, they suggested I call the (pay) help line or go to the forums for assistance since my warranty is expired (February 2011). They didn't even take me out to dinner first....
