Transferring from Vista PC to new HP with Windows 7

Is there any way to transfer my apps from my Vista Home Premium to my brand new HP desktop that has Windows 7 Home Premium installed?  I have always had to do them through .exe and then try to find my passwords, etc.  Is there a recommended software that would work through a cable between the 2 PCs that would actually do this?

I had tried to upgrade my Vista computer but the motherboard was not compatible with windows7.  I have purchased a brand new HP and want this to be as painless as possible.

Thanks for your help.

Carol, I am using XP Pro, so I will tell you how I would do it: Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.  You have to run this program on both computers.  The instructions are easy to follow.

Re: Transferring from Vista PC to new HP with Windows 7

Thanks for this info.  I was ready to buy a software program to do this one time only with it.  This appears to do the same thing!!!!  I am happy to hear that my data will be there and I only have to find the programs.  Hopefully that will not be an issue as I purchased the previous computer about 18 months ago.  It was a refurb that they put a now 5-year-old motherboard that will not accept windows 7.  No more refurbs for me.  I want, hopefully, to know what I have purchased or at least have a decent warranty.  I think I will do the cable method!!!  Out to shop for it.

Thanks so much.
