Hi,
What is your OS?
Generally (in Vista, Windows 7 and XP) it is a matter of going to device manager, highlighting the wireless Network adapter and selecting disable. When the OS warns you that you are going to disable the device tell it that you want to disable it. Once you have done that...Wireless Network adapter is now turned off. If you want to use the wireless adapter again, you will have to go back to Device manager and enable the device.
regards,
erico

I have the same concern. I have an hp pavilion HPE h8-1234 desktop. On the upper RHS of the tower is a blue light which looks like a symbol of a broadcasting tower. If this means the WiFi is active, I would like to know how to shut it off. I tried looking for one of the solutions mentioned below under the device manager but couldn't find it.
Thanks.

I solved the problem on my machine.
I selected Control Panel>Device Manager>Network Adapters>Broadcom WLAN Adapter> (then right clicked and selected "Properties") , selected the "Driver" Tab, then hit the "Disable" button. Now this "blue light" on top is gone.
