USB Keyboard and Mouse not working

I have a Pavillion DQ174A -ABA and went to hook up a USB mouse and Keyboard since the PS2 ones got lost and they will not work, so can not add drivers or anything it is Running win XP Pro..

A usb kbd and mouse should work without any extra drivers. Are you sure the usb ports are working, have you tried other devices such as flash drive,etc to check the ports? Have you tested the kbd & mouse on another machine?

My USB keyboard and mouse stopped working.  It seems my USB ports don't work, as I have tried different keyboards; even tried the PS/2 port!  Now I can not logon.  Could it be the USB controller??
