Updating dc7800 BIOS

Hi

I need to update my bios on the HP dc7800 desktop. I downloaded the Bios files and get a flashi.exe file

What are the steps to update the BIOS. Is the iflash.exe the correct file to use? How do I run it?

Re: Updating dc7800 BIOS

Heello cbhpdk, It seems there are several different models of the dc7800 series systems.

Can you advise the exact model number of your system?

Is it a version of a Small Form Factor system, and if so which version.

Re: Updating dc7800 BIOS

Hi:

The lastest BIOS verison for all form factor dc7800's is v.1.28A of 6 Mar 2009.

Select your dc7800 model (USDT, SFF or CMT) and the operating system you are running. Then under BIOS, you will find the v1.28A BIOS download.

You can flash the BIOS in a windows environment.

However, if you flash the BIOS in a windows environment you MUST, repeat...MUST, disable or uninstall your antivirus program. As a further precaution you may want to flash the BIOS in the windows safe mode.

If you do not disable or uninstall your AV program when performing a windows based flash, your antivirus program may attempt to interrupt the flash thinking a virus is attacking your BIOS software. If the AV program is successful in interrupting the flash, it will also be quite succesful in rendering your nice dc7800 business desktop quite useless.

A final thought. Only update the BIOS if a revised version specifically resolves an issue you are currently experiencing, or you need to update the BIOS in order to install hardware such as a processor that is not supported with your current BIOS revision.  You can read the release notes for each BIOS version which will let you know what enhancements that BIOS version brings to the computer.

Re: Updating dc7800 BIOS

Here is were you download the BIOS update utility for the dc7800 http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=3459243&...

There is no option to install it in Windows.  This really sucks because the option is there for the dc7600 and the dc7900.

What's up with this?

The install for the dc7800 says it's supposed to be done through DOS, but it doesn't create a bootable USB key or arnything so it appears you have to get your own DOS boot disk to install it.  This really sucks as well.

It would be nice if HP did something to update the BIOS update for the dc7800.

Re: Updating dc7800 Safe mode

Hi, Mike:

Boot the PC up. Keep tapping the F8 key just before the HP welcome screen goes away but before Windows start loading.

Then Windows will load files and bring you into safe Mode.
