I have a new porcessor that I want to use on my desktop - I upgraded tthe memory to 16gb and installed a better vidieo card-ATI Radeon HD 5770
Did I leave something out here?
Does this seem like a good combo? I need this power for my Recording Studio and Video buisness.
Thanks.
Also its an ALOE Board and all AMD matched componets.

Lloyd, welcome to the forum.
Let's talk about the video card. It appears from reading the specs on this model that it requires a minimum of 450W to operate properly. The current power supply unit (PSU) is only 250W. This simply isn't enough to run it. This would require a PSU upgrade. I like Corsair and OCZ. I recommend at least 500W. Lack of clean,'stable power can cause performance problems.
Here are the processors that are supported by HP:
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
TDP=125W
AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (D)
AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (H)
AMD II Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (P)
AMD II Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe ®)
AMD II Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe ®)
It appears that your choice should work. Since you own it, try it.
I would think this combo should raise system performance considerably.

Thanks. I was aware of the power supply needs and that was my next question and you answered perfectly!!
Thanks!!
Do I need to do anything special with changing power supply?

Lloyd, it is my pleasure.
The leads on the new PSU should be marked, as will be the connectors on the motherboard. This will help you with the upgrade. I suggest measuring the current PSU and comparing the measurements to the one that you choose. This will assure that it fits.
Here are two PSU's that should work great:

Both examples are 600W. This is because they will give you more room for upgrades in the future. Also, one is modular. It will give you more space in the case if you need it.

Yes already bought the Modular one from Newegg
I am planning on installing a big effects VST program and it uses an interface that consists of a big USB card
So I can plug in all my devices...
Thanks. I think I will be successful and at the current specs on the upgrade I beat out my buddys ALIEN desktop by a mile!!
Thanks
LLOYD
