Using my media center pc to capture video from analog camcorder

I have the HP Pavilion m7480n desktop. According to the product specifications I should be able to hook up my camcorder (Sony CCD-trv328 Hi-8) to the front ports (S-video, R + L audio). I've done this and also tried hooking to rear ports as well. The cam is not being recognized and the software (Windows Movie Maker and/or Muvee AutoProducer) keeps saying no capture device found. Is this not one of the intended purposes of the Media PC to capture, edit and burn home video? Is there not a capture device within the pc or do I have to buy one? I realize a digital cam is better and is the near future but I have many, many (many :-( ) years of treasures on older formats (Hi-8, vhs, etc). I'm really perplexed with this problem and I consider myself to be real tech savvy.

Hot tip of the year.

Get a firewire 400 cable and connect that to the IEEE1394 port on the front.

Turn on the camera and it should be recognized right away.

Hope this helps.
