What would make a computer reboot on its own?

My computer reboots by its self, what can cause this?

Re: What would make a computer reboot on its own?

It helps if you state the model of your HP.

When was the last time you cleaned it inside?

The Law of Effect states that positive reinforcement increases the probability of a behavior being repeated. (B.F.Skinner). You toss me points, and I perform better.

Re: What would make a computer reboot on its own?

Dan451,

Here are 2 starting points:

Document about unexpected restarts and how to get the cause:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph06978&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=...

The stock PSU in many HP's of that circa is a Bestec:http://www.power-on.com/atx12v250bt.html

This PSU is notorious to failing. Have you witnessed what the small green power light on the rear does when this happens. That light is always on, but here is a link to testing:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bph06788&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=...

Hopefully you will report back soon.

Re: What would make a computer reboot on its own?

Thought it had helped, but it didn't. Tried the things in both links.
