Whenever I turn on my computer, the screen says "Monitor going to sleep"

I have a HP Pavillion A6150. I have had it for 3 years and it has worked perfectly.

However, the other day I turned on the computer as normal and the base booted up but the screen keeps saying "Monitor going to sleep" and then the screen goes to sleep.

I have tried to wake the monitor up but it still doesn't work. The lights on my keyboard do not go on either.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Please help!!!!!!!

Which Pavilion A1650 do you have? Is it the  A6150e,  A6150e or  A6150?

The first thing to do is to try another monitor, then another video cable.

Are you using the onboard video or a video card?

What is the condition of the PSU light at the rear of the PC case?

If the LED solid color or flashing?

The next thing to do is to open the case and remove the memory modules. Install a single module in the slot closest to the CPU. Plug the power plug back into the wall socket and press the PC power button. Try each module. A faulty memory module can cause a no boot/no display contidion.

Please keep us updated. If the previous steps did not work we can continue. There are more things to check to isolate the issue dependent on the answers you post from these first steps.

Here is a link to the Service and Maintenence Guide for your PC. This  is where your support page(s) are.

Re: Whenever I turn on my computer, the screen says "Monitor going to sleep"

Hi Erico,

It is A6150.uk.

I have plugged the monitor into my laptop and it seems to be working fine. Therefore, I am led to believe that there is a fault in the base somewhere.

The PSU light does not flash....it is a green steady light.

With regards to the video card, I'm not too sure and would have to check. The video card is in the base and has not be changed since purchase.

Thanks for your help so far...I will do as you instructed and will inform you of what happens next. Will you be available to help still?

Many Thanks

Re: Whenever I turn on my computer, the screen says "Monitor going to sleep"

Hi Erico,

I have removed each video card in turn as you suggested but both times the computer booted up the same. The monitor still says "Monitor is going to sleep".

Therefore, I now think the problem may not be in the video cards as both cards are still allowing the computer to boot up, but the monitor still keeps going to sleep.

Also, I removed the graphics card and reseated it but still....no change!!!!!

Do you think the problem is more serious than first anticipated?

Could there be a fault in the motherboard?

Please let me know what you think, your help is much appreciated.

Thanks again you have been a great help!

Did you try what I suggested about the memory module(s)?

Re: Whenever I turn on my computer, the screen says "Monitor going to sleep"

Sorry, what I meant to say was....Yes I did try as you suggested.

I have reseated the graphics card and removed the memory modules one by one and turned the computer on. Both times, the screen displayed the same message.

I have also removed the motherboard battery and waited a minute before putting it back in. I then powered the computer again but still got the same message!!

Thanks for your help again!

Re: Whenever I turn on my computer, the screen says "Monitor going to sleep"

Hi,

If you hear CPU Fan Spinning when the PC is turned on, Most probably, the Motherboard is in good Condition, issue could be with Video Card.If you hear no sound, but, LED ON back of the Tower is Solid on, Motherboard is gone bad. If the LED on back of the Tower is either Flashing or off, you need to get Power Supply replaced.

Please contact HP Support and get it Serviced.

Thank You.

Did you place the jumper in position 2-1 (clear cmos position) while the battery was out?

Otherwise all it will do is clear the BIOS password if one is in place.

If the power supply led is flashing it can normally be reset.

erico
