Hi, I have a NY540AA-ABA CQ5210F, The Athlon II 215 is barely adequate, the mismatched memory 2Gb+1Gb does not permit dual data rate, so obviously this is not a thrill ride PC. I spotted one of the new AMD Zambezi quad core XF-4100 95W CPU for $100.00 on a limited time sale. Zambezi is new. Not specifically listed on the Hardware tables. Rather than buy one and see if it works, I thought I would ask to see if it has already been tried. To be honest, I do not expect much. But, I would like to extend this system another year until the DDR4 mainboards surface.

Your computer supports the following socket AM2+ CPUs;
AMD Phenom II Quad-Core
AMD Phenom II Triple-Core
AMD Phenom Quad-Core (A) 9xxx series (AM2+)
AMD Phenom Triple-Core (T) 8xxx series (AM2+)
AMD Athlon X4
AMD Athlon X3
AMD Athlon X2 (B) (AM2+)
The FX-4100 CPU requires a motherboard with a socket AM3+. Your system will not support the FX-4100 CPU.

Not going to work. The best you can do is the Phenom II series cpu. I personally have the same machine as you. I upgraded the cpu to a Phenom II X4 925 95w over a year ago. Stay away from the black editions as you can only use 95w max cpu's. Black edition quads are 125w. I also added a 2GB stick of ram to take full advantage of windows 7 64 bit with dual channel ram. Here is the stick I purchased for it as well over a year ago.

Okie dokie, thanks. I had looked at the phenom II 95W selections. Good to know the 925 has worked for someone else.
Just a point of curiosity. Is your crucial module in residence alongside a Hynix (Hyundai) module? I found a Hynix with matching part numbers on eBay for $20 bucks. It worked great for about 15 hours then started in with bsod annoyance tactics. so it went back to seller who was very nice about it. and the cheapo 1GB went back in eliminating the BSOD.
Since PC2-6400 is on the cusp of obsolescence I should pick one up before they become "classic" parts and increase in price over the current absurd levels. To go with PC2-8500 would not be economically feasible. It would be too close to replacing the whole system.
To date, the most effective upgrade has been to install a GT240 video card. Although it still stutters at times at displaying 1080p, which is probably a shortcome from the 2+1 memory eliminating the DDR process.
With USB3, SATA 6Gb, DDR4 as well as newer video sockets on the horizon this CQ5210f is in the bandaid ward until the new babies arrive.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and insite.

Memory wise. Mine came with 2 different brands. Samsung and Micron. The Micron stick was the 1GB. Took that out and installed the Crucial 2gb stick. GT240 is not meant for 1080p gaming or even close. Intel is sticking to DDR3 until 2014. DDR4 is a ways off as a standard and will be expensive.

Thanks for the reply, from a quick Bing the list of spouting and pouting experts was not entirely clear about the multicore divisions for socket3. It seemed certain that 8 core bulldozer aka zabezi would be in need of socket 3+ and bios level support. The disertation either did not include quad core or became fuzzy pertaining to the construction of the lower end XF series hinting at an eye to back compatibility to fielded mature platforms.
I will just pour less coffee, and take more short walks while the CQ5210f churns out requested tasks.

ISSCC conferees seem to think they will ship in 2013, and mainstream by 2014 and 50% market by 2015.
