a6345.sc low performance

Hello,

I have purchased an a6345.sc desktop about 6 months ago with an assumption of it being a quite average model due to the system specifications listed. It offers:

- Athlon 64 X2 4000+

- nVidia GeForce 8500 gt 512 MB

- 4 Gb RAM DDR2

This is the link to the desktop's page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=ru&cc=ru&lang=ru&product=3658000

I was mostly looking forwards to a decent gaming performance. That, however, is its main disadvantage. And I'm not only talking about the new video games released i.e. Fallout 3, but even relatively old releases such as GTA: San Andreas which runs at about 6 FPS.

This is certainly not the issue of antivirus or other software running on the PC since I tried the performance on the cleanly restored system. The index given by Vista is 5.4 with CPU and GPU having the lowest values.

Questions are:

1) Is it an expected performance for this desktop?

2) If no, then what might be the issue?

3) What are the possible solutions?

4) Should I upgrade?

Thank You.

Re: a6345.sc low performance

It looks to me that your system should run even the latest games at least with more FPS than that.

What I would do first is download the latest nvidia driver for your pc and run a scan for spyware.

I heard that the 8500 GT isn't really a gaming card but it could be wrong.

Maybe the 9600GT or 9800GT would be a better choice.

Re: a6345.sc low performance

I think it might be your card. my grandpa has a stock 8500 GT in his pc and with full specs on cod4 it lagged pretty good. if you want to seriously game, i suggest the 9800 GTX+ for $250. or if you just do casual gaming go with a 9600 GT
