Need to reinstall ms works on this pavalion which came with works installed. I try the indicated procedure, and it says I should uninstall the current version first. Well, it won't uninstall. :-(
Says it "msworks8.msinot on disk, and that is correct. I searched the hard drive and could not find that file.
So, now what?
The problem I'm trying to resolve is that suddenly the word portion of msworks won't run, saying "works font cache has stopped working" and suggests a reinstall of works. The computer is running vista home premium. I can launch the spreadsheet program. But they need the word processing program.
Thanks!

Use Revo Uninstaller. It's free and it works. First uninstall and if it's still on the list then remove the entry. Search on yahoo for it.
You could also just go into the C:/Program Files and delete the Microsoft Works folder and then go into Add/Remove Programs and attempt to uninstall it, it will say an error occured and now it should be gone and then you can proceed and reinstall.

Used Revo to uninstall ms works. There were hundreds of reg entries, and it said to be very careful, so I did not remove any reg entries. I did let Revo remove the program folders. Tried the "normal" uninstall and got the same msg about missing the .msi file.
So used HP's recovery program to reinstall ms works. Said it did. However, the original folder, program files/ms works, was not there, and the program did not show up in the programs folder. So, now that it appears at least partially uninstalled, I can't get it reinstalled!
Hey, HP, what's up?

If you're committed to getting Microsoft Works back on the system, probably your best bet is to perform a factory recovery.
Back up all of your data and then tap either F10 (XP) or F11 (Vista) on bootup, it should go into a recovery manager and allow you to begin the recovery process. When it's done, the computer will be like brand new!

I know that's one option, but it's not viable in this situation.
SO, I need something else, and yes, the user is used to works and likes it and wants it back. What can I say? :-)
When I remove the msworks8 folder and then have the system "reinstall" it, everything looks like the reinstall worked. The progress bar moves, and so on. Yet after a reboot, the program is not on the computer!
