compaq presario is very slow

Hello,

I own a compaq presario s5100nx w/ windows xp os, 256MB SDRAM and 2.6Ghz intel celeron chip.  The computer is very slow when I open microsoft works.  I tried defrag and disk cleaning but it is still slow.  It is also slow on the internet but I signed up for the slowest internet speed so I can't complain about that.  Any help you can give would be great!  vr eddie shiloh

It may be worth upgrading the memory in your computer, on your compaq PC there are two memory slots one presumably will come with the factory with 256mb memory, The PC will take upto 1gb or memory, specifically the memory type should be 266MHz DDR266 PC2100.
