computer only recognizes 1 memory stick??

Hello, Hope someone can help me with this,
Problem Description: Installed 2 1gb sticks but computer only recognizes one stick.
  • Printer Model, Notebook or Desktop Model Number. For help finding your model number, please try one of these sites:
  •       Compaq   sr1930t
  • Operating System  :Windows xp with current service packs
  • Connection Method - Broadband
  • Error messages - no error messages, only shows 1 stick of ram at a time.Doesnt matter which slot I put them in both work by themselves. Will not recognize both together.
  • Hardware or software changes from default: had 512 orignally installed from factory
  • Recent hardware or software changes made to the system. Did you just do something that is causing the problem:
  • Purchased memory from Cruicial after doing an memory compatiable test. The problem is not the memory stick both work. Cruicial suggested an update for Bios. Which did not fix the problem. I am lost not sure what to do now?
  • Maximum Memory Capacity:  2048MB
    Currently Installed Memory:  1GB
    Available Memory Slots:  1

Scroll down this page and install the SouthBrigde driver for your chipset. Reboot after installing the driver.

    SouthBridge

P.S. I know it shows Graphics Drivers but the SouthBridge is part of the chipset.

Download and run Memtest86 and check each individual piece of memory in each slot. Could be there is a bad memory module or a memory slot on the motherboard is not working. Sometimes you have to run approved speeds from the board specs. PC2 4200  DDR 400/533

    Memtest86

I ran the memtest86, it says pass complete no errors did it twice.

    Memtest86+v2.11

    Pentium d 65 nm     3199 mhz

    l1 cache: 16k    20910ms

    l2 cache: 512k    16927ms

    l3 cache: none

    Memory: 959m     1055mbs

    Chipset:

Does this mean that memtest only detected the one memory stick 1g. Also does the fact that other memory config. says  the slot is empty mean anything?    both sticks work in one of the slots so its not the memory stick right?

I really appreciate the  help you have given me.

Test them in the other slot to find out if the slot is working.

I did and computer recognizes the memory by itself with nothing is in the other slot but not with both sticks in. That slot never had memory in it. Only came with 512mb in one slot. Looks like I'm gonna have to live with just the one slot...:smileysad:

Try 1gig in one slot and the 512mb in the other and see if it notices the 512

I'm out of ideas without getting to look at it in person. If I think of anything else I'll post it here.
