I have a HP a6838f desktop, have had it just over three years. I have been slowly losing programs. First loss I noticed was the defrag program. Then I lost a few games. Now my AOL software stopped wprking. i tried everything. rebuilt the aol adapter, did the quick restore, uninstalled and reinstalled the software. Nothing helps. Now I have to go to the aol.com page and work from there. What could have caused all these failuresto either disapper or stop working.

Hi Samwise,
Several possibilities exist. You could have a corrupt operating system or a failing hard drive. You might have a virus doing damage. I would suggest running a full hard drive test first. If you eliminate that and considering that you tried a restore you might consider a full recovery with the understanding that doing so will place the computer back to the same state/condition it was in the day you took it out of the box.

Sorry for the long delay, I don't get a chance to check out the boards as often as I'd like-
Here's a link to an information page on performing hard drive tests. Hope it helps.
