disabled my monitor

I've done more retarded things, but this time I told the control panel not to use the integrated video before I got a new video card installed, so I can't see anything.

I tried to reset the BIOS by pushing F1, F5, enter, F10, enter, when I turned the a1224n back on, but that didn't work.

I saw some other instructions that indicate that yes or ok be selected after the F5 and F10, but since I can't see I don't know if yes or no is the default answer.

Anything else I can do?

There are a lot of stupid things windows won't let you do, why is this so easy?

Re: disabled my monitor

so-wrong,

Did you try plugging in the new card and seeing if it is picked up automatically? A lot of computers will detect the new GPU and switch over.

Re: disabled my monitor

Yes, thank you, I did. No change.

I also removed and replaced the CR2032 back-up battery, which is also supposed to reset the BIOS, and that also was unproductive.

Re: disabled my monitor

so-wrong,

Just to rule out the obvious, did you plug the monitor into the new card?

Re: disabled my monitor

Yes, I've tried both the new card and the original VGA connection.

Re: disabled my monitor

Removed the video card and my monitor works / hp support.

So I still can't install the video card driver without the video card physically installed, and if the video card is in the PCI slot I can't get any video.

Re: disabled my monitor

What video card are you using?  Does it require a separate power plug?

You might have to go into the bios and disable the onboard video to get your card to work. It's one or the other and not both.
