That would be either a Tatoo utility. It is a propietary utility and not freely available to the public.

Hi:
You should be able to use this one but you MUST use a floppy disk drive.
If you don't have one use a USB FDD.
The file is used to create a bootable floppy disk which you boot from and from there you can enter a serial number and asset tag #.
Ignore the list of supported PC's. It will work on many newer HP business desktops.
Do not waste your time trying to get it to work on a USB flash drive, CD or other media because no one I know of has been able to get it to work that way.

Paul,
You are the king of ancient utilities!! Did you go through the StarGate to find that one?

Hi, Eric:
Yes, that one is buried deep in the bowels of the HP business support site. It also happens to be the latest version.
There are older versions.
There are also a few for old notebooks, but unlike the desktop version the old notebook versions do not work on newer HP business notebooks.
Also, on newer HP business desktops with the UEFI BIOS's you don't even need a utility.
You just do this:
After entering BIOS Setup by hitting the F10 key, press Ctrl+A to open additonal fields in Security>System IDs menu.
Enter your PC's serial number in Asset Tag Number and Chassis Serial Number fields.
Save changes there and again when you exit the BIOS.
Oh, and if you do use that ancient utility, you probably have to create the bootable FDD on a PC with Windows XP on it. I don't think it works with windows 7.
For all of the folks I have supplied that utility to that have business desktops, they all said it worked perfectly, I know up to the 8000 Elite series of a few years back.
If it works on an 8000 Elite, it should definitely work on a dx2400, which is an older model.

I tried the Ctrl+A trick on my loaner Envy 17-3002ea and it did not work. It produced two beeps and did nothing. It locked up the BIOS and I had to force a restart.

I know it works though, see the threads below.

Hello,
Thanks for yours answers. I tried this exe (SP) but its not good : Serial number CZC------- not written to I2C EEPROM. This ROM does not support writting the chassis Serial Number.
I thinks, its an other exe but what is it. Its to difficult to find it on HP Chanel Service Network.
Best regards

Hi:
That's unfortunate.
Did you try making the Ctrl+A entry in the security menu?
There are no other serial number change utilities available for download, and as Eric posted above, you will need to have an HP tech tattoo the BIOS with the serial number using their proprietary program to do so.
