Hi DP-K,
Since my last email with the problem where I could not find the program when downloaded,I tried again and alongside the Run/Save bit was Downloaded files. I clicked this and watched the sp54931.ex download to a folder "View and Track Downloads". I then said run to this and it asked for my Administrative password. I thought here goes whilst I am waiting for a reply from you,nothing to lose again and...........low and behold the update for the New Version HP Support Assistant downloaded correctly. I have since had a look into the desktop program and there are no alerts,everything is up to date.
So all is well now and i cannot thank you enough for all your assistance in trying to resolve this problem for me. You are the experts and i was just plain lucky. Thank you sincerely.

I had the same problem. I tried to follow your direction. I uninstalled it and downloaded the update in the link you gave, everything is fine exept that it doesnt run anymore. I clicked on it and it seem like loading then 5 seconds later it stops. no respond from the program. its the same with ny media smart too.
is there anything i can do?

It takes a while so do not think it is not working.
I did all this and I have the new version installed with no alerts.
I hope this all makes sense as i am not an expert,only middle of the road on my Computer. Hope this works for you,best wishes, gerry

I have a Compaq CQ5123F desktop (Windows 7-64 bit), on which I cannot use the last two Support Assistant updates (sp53904 and sp54931). They DO install completely after deleting the former SA, but when clicking on their icon (a blue/black circle with a question mark), a small rectangular window opens also with a similar blue/black background with question mark. That's it...nothing else happens.
I have to use sp52594 which was the last version that works fine: this was the 1st update to S.A. after the original sp49766.
As my warranty expired Sept 2010, HP willl not assist with my problem. I'm not sure if I really need the update, as HP is not releasing any new software updates for anything else.

Well, ignore the above. I tried running MS FixIt, which said it found nothing wrong (I had selected software Not Found). Then I tried reinstall of latest SA, and this time it worked !!!
I won't bother trying to determine why this happened, but obviously I'm happy. Now all my software works and is up-to-date (ready for Windows 8 ). Maybe it was FixIt, but who knows?

Hi, Yes the same problem was fixed for me as i am new to this forum by dp-k. He advised me to download an application update using sp54931.exe.You will be able to find this by google (put in download sp54931.exe) click on this(it came up top of listings) this will take you to a page HP Support Assistant application update. click on update,download and this will put into folder(wherever your downloads go). Run this and it should put you in the new version with the update.
It takes a while so do not think it is not working.
I did all this and I have the new version installed with no alerts.

I uninstalled with MIcrosoft fix it, but it appears that there were some files left behind. I did reboot anyways hoping the issue was solved with rebooting. I then downloaded the new file, and started to instal and got an error message that prevents me from further instal procedures. Please help...

Hi,
I also have a problem re-installing HP Support Assistant. I had uninstalled HPSA using Fixit but none of the various SP programs have installed. I get an error: "Your system does not meet the minimum standards for this update. Update has been cancelled (1602)." Any ideas?
