xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

I just bought on week ago out of lease HP xw8600 Workstation.

My clock is losing time each time I have to synchronize with internet but after that is keep on losing time no mater if it is running.

I changed COMS battery but problem is still there.

I Installed Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, I checked the BIOS version is V01.32. I thought may be the version is old but I did not find any BIOS driver for Windows y ultimate. I also tried to uninstall and reinstalling Realtime clock, but still same status.

I would appreciate if any one can help me.

Thanks.

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

What do you mean by uninstalling and reinstalling realtime clock?

RTC (realtime clock) is an oscillator circuit on the motherboard.

Are you sure that you did not happen to install the RTC battery upside down?

When properly installed, the + on the battery must be facing upward when viewed from above.

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

Thanks Erico for quick replay.

by uninstalling and reinstalling realtime clock I mean following steps.

  1. Turn on the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately begin pressing the F8 key repeatedly until a Windows Start-up Menu appears.
  3. Select Safe Mode and then press the Enter key.
  4. Click Start  , and then Control Panel .
  5. Click System and Maintenance , and click System .
  6. Under Tasks, click Device Manager .
  7. Click the Plus Sign (+ ) next to System devices .
  8. Right-click System CMOS/real time clock , click Uninstall , and then click OK .
  9. When the System Settings Change window appears, click Yes to restart the computer. The real-time clock reinstalls automatically.
I double checked + on the battery is facing upward when viewed from above.

After I sove this problem, will create frevocery media.

Thanks.

Ahh. So you uninstalled the app.

Have you considered running a live Linux distro to see if it experiences the same issue when left running for perhaps 24 hours?

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

I just run Mint disto and time is correct do you want me to left it running for may be couple of hours.

One think I should mention may be it will help in pin point the issue, as the time is correct in linux destro but the same issue which I have for host os which is Windows 7 ultimate and also with guest os Windows 7 ultimate.

Thanks

Please rephrase that.  I don't quite understand what you tried to say in the highlighted part of the quote.

Let it run for at least the time in which  you noticed you were losing time.

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

I mean to say that "I notice problem in host OS which is Windows 7 ultimate and guest OSs which have windwos 7 utlimate 64bit and 32bit installed, but I did not see any issue in guest with linux distro.

I will let mint linus running for two to three hour and then will check if time is correct.

Thanks.

Hi Erico,

I just checked the time in Mint linux distro is giving right time, so no issue in linux distro.

Any Idea why I am having time issue in Host os (Windows 7 ultimate as well as guest os with Windows 7 ultimate).

Thanks.

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

In the host OS right click on the systray clock and slect adjust date/ime. Ensure that you have chosen the correct time zone. Click on change settings in the internet time tab and select a time server as in the image below.

Click on the start orb and type in the word services. Click on the "services" at the top with the gear icon under programs. Make sure that the Windows Time service is started and the startup type is set to either automatic or delayed start.

Re: xw8600 Workstation ( Windows 7 ultimate) time is losing and not synchronizing with internet.....

Hi Erico,

Sorry I am late.

Morning I did work on your suggestion, I was just missing the services part of it. I did make as you asked for, and then I update manually using internet time setting "Update now" option. After that I boot the system it came with right time, then I left for office and live it in lock mode.

Now I checked the time was 4/23/2012 7:46 AM  so it is still lossing time.

Is something wrong BIOS driver my BIOS driver version is 01.32, I tried to find BIOS if there is any lattest verion in hp web site but I don't see any driver for Windows 7 ultimate.

What should we do now.

Thanks.
