Re: 42" TV PL4260N - Garbage

Just an FYI.  My Pl4260N stopped showing picture after many years of use (I still hate HP).  There was a very very faint image present in lower left of screen when pressing menu key.  I read a bunch of threads, still wasn't sure what the problem would be, so tore the back off the tv.  I found 1 bad fuse on the xsus board.  Many posts reccomend changing whatever board has a bad fuse, so I removed and replaced the xsus board with one from Pacificgeek . com .  I used them because they had a new board for the least cost.  Total with shipping, about 80.00 US.  Poof, the TV works.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - Garbage

Awesome...I never took my HP 42" apart, as I too read about all the others with the same issue, and there are 2 boards, so my thought you would have to replace both, otherwise the one you replaced may not be the correct one.  And even if you replaced both, whose to say it would last a month or more.

As my HP dv6000z  Laptop with 5 system boards later, is questionable it will boot the next time.

And as you say if only a Fuse, is this a fuse you can remove and insert a new one without soldering?

Did you see noticable heat damage or something that was obivious, is it the board on the left or right when you open the back?

And by any chance did you take a digital picture of the bad component?

As if it is the fuse, how many  had both boards replaced for only a fuse.

HP and others made a bundle off a defective component of either the

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3243AB-PA     PC BOARD

or

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3242-PA PC BOARD SUB

I would be interested to know which board, if it has a ID# / Part# and if possible took a picture.

I also purchased a Janome machine, which its system board  a very small board fried, cost $500

Thanks for sharing, Doc

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - Garbage

I was now wondering how to safely dispose of my HP 42" plasma. It's not cost effective to replace any parts. I purchased a Sanyo HDTV (not a plasma) for less than 500, and it's a 46" inch !! The prices have come down so much that having the HP repaired is too expensive. It's ashame that HP has inferior products. I will never purchase an HP product again, and will inform all my relatives and friends of my "customer experience"

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - Garbage

 Hi gork4231

You may want to check with the City Disposal Company for Electrical Product/Equipment Recycling.  Here in my City, you can call ahead and make arrangements between their hours of operation an ask if they would accept the 42" or could recommend someone.
Our City has a website, part of the City Government website and they provide this information, as well as list what can be recycled.  Also, you may check with associations such as Deseret Industries if you have one, or Salvation Army, etc.  As some may recycle or take TV's.  Also, you can call Best Buy or check with who you purchased the HP 42" from and see if they will or know.
I hope the Sanyo holds up, I got a 26" AOC to replace the HP 42" - 100lb doorstop with no viewing pleasure piece of crud.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I just called HP support about my picture and sound going out the same day, and she told me the same Y-sustain board went out and that I can Google the product and replace it myself. I searched the board and found it doe under $100 on Ebay.

I will order this today to try to get the product  in so I can replace it with the few screws it has.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Well like Liquid and 4T I am back to say my replaced PTS board was great up until last night and the picture is gone again. So now I sit here pondering if I should attempt this procedure again or just chuck it out the window. We are saving up for a 60" LED from a company who knows how to make TV's but for now I am very hesitant to put anymore money into this lemon.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

As much as I paid for my PL4260N, a board for less than $100, might be worth the hassle to replace and use for however long until the board goes again.

I am about to have my HP 42" TV recycled, because it is unknown to me which board went as far as I know there are two boards.  I have sound, no picture, but then my  HP 42" has been sitting in the garage for months.

And prior the boards that could be purchased through Best Buy

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3243AB-PA     PC BOARD

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3242-PA         PC BOARD SUB

Were pretty expensive to buying both not knowing which board did what or which when replaced would restore the picture.

As for a 60" from a company who knows how to make TV's, that remains to be seen, as HP or other Company may use 3rd party components and they fail.  As with my HP dv6000 Laptop now on its 5th system board...as the replacement part is the defective one that originally was installed when I purchased custom ordered the Laptop.

So what company is the one who knows how to make TV's ?, and the other side of the coin is support, and down the road when something fails, is the availability of replacement parts and may not be a do it yourself fix it as replacing one or both of the boards of the HP 42" PL4260N.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Well, we have called HP tech support, and we had the same response: "We can send you the part for $189 or you can buy a new TV." Our 42 inch plasma was purchased in 2007 for $1600. We bought the extended warranty, as well. Unfortunately, it was no longer under warranty, as of April 2011. Wouldn't you know it? We're going to "Call Kurtis" channel #13 news.  We need someone with a little more power behind them to help us with this problem.
