Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

[ Edited ]

Hi Jennifer69...I agree and I have

3 - HP Desktops, no problem - XP

2  - Compaq's pre 2003, no problems - XP & Win98

1 - Gateway Laptop 2003, XP Pro, only had to replace a hard drive

1 - HP dv6000z  Laptop (2007), I customed ordered, less than a year old the System/Motherboard nVidia graphic card went bad, would boot, no picture, bought the 4 yr extended plan, I was first cheated out of a Year warranty that comes with the purchase of the HP dv6000z, and I paid for 4, got 3 yrs...and in those 3 years, the Laptop is on its 5th Systemboard, 3rd Party inferior nVidia card overheats.  Never happens while running.  And so that Laptop besides down time after you call India, is shipped to Memphis TN.  And you had to wait for the shipping container to send.  This one Laptop w extended warranty, ended up costing $2400.

1 - Acer Aspire - w 6GB RAM, pretty much can keep up with me, purchased in 2011

I am sick of Customer Services, Calling India for a Product Made in China, Japan, Sir Lanka, wherever but America.  And the words you hear when you do call, "I am Sorry for Any Inconvience this May Have Caused You" or "How May We Provide You with Excellent Service Today"

And HP knows when they have a defective product, provided they Read the Forums.  And HP replaced the nVidia card with the same defective card every time, one time after the HP dv600z was returned, I had to re-intall every Program, run all updates of all Programs and Operating System, hours spent, and on the 3rd day of re-installing, it crashed again, same problem.

So the Last Systemboard installed has not failed, however I hardly use the Laptop for fear of it happening again.  Plus the 12 ion cell battery is crud too.  And it came installed with Vista, another piece of crud.  I am sure Bill Gates does not use Windows ME, Vista or Windows 7....and I wonder if Gates uses an HP computer at all or ever.

No need to think hard on whether to buy HP again or not....Just Say NO!...the PL4260N is still in the same spot all 100lbs of it, collecting dust.

But HP really does not care to have each and every HP User/Owner Satisfied, as for every 1 million dissatisfied or more, there are probably 8 million that do not have the plaquing problems some of us have.  Then we have the world of SmartPhones and their issues to contend with.

I have 2 TV's over 15 yrs old, one dates to 1983, they work find, as long as you have a digital box or cable hooked into them.

Now if we can only find those with the PL4260N, that has a picture and no sound...maybe we can make a Deal, Come On Down, E-Mail us....and there is no guarantee if we had the cards replaced, how long would it work before the same thing or something different happened.  Mine did not make it 3 yrs.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I've had my 42" HP since '06. In 2010, the Ysus went out and I successfully replaced it on my own. Forward to tonight in 2012. No pop this time: I was watching a sporting event and, all of a sudden, the screen/picture got very faded and without most of the color. It's as if the brightness just went away. But I could see it...barely, but enough to finish watching the game. Was frustrating. And when I paused the video with the DVR, there was a big, dark cloudy-spot on the left side of the screen. It went away as I kept playing the game. The audio is still fine.

Does anyone have any idea if this is a Ysus acting up again? Or might it be the Zsus this time? Mother board? I will take it apart to check the fuses next week, but would love if anyone has an idea. Thanks so much!!

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just went out, still have sound

I WAS INFORMED BY MACGYVER TV REPAIR SHOP TO REPLACE THE ASUS BOARD ON MY HP PL4260N. I LOOKED FOR IT AND FOUND OUT  THE NEW PART IS ONLY 99.95 ON EBAY. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR REPAIR.

I AM FIXING MY OWN SINCE HP IS THE WORST PEOPLE TO GET PARTS FROM. THEY WERE OUT OF STOCK ON THE MAIN BOARDS. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT. OUR PARTS ARE LG COMPATIBLE PC BOARDS.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

My advice would be throw it out and get another. I fixed mine and it lasted 1 year before it went dead again. You are likely throwing money out the window. $200 more to get a new TV.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Hi JennaM

My PL4260N is still sitting in the garage, since 2009, I bought it in 2006, and I too only have sound.  I thought by now I would of purchased both boards, not knowing which board would allow viewing again, also, if both boards are needed for viewing.  And my thought was how long will replacement boards last.

As I purchased another HP product in 2007, that less than year the System Board died, it was the Graphic/Video Card nVidia causes the Laptop to over heat.  Everything boots and runs, just no image.  Since the replacement board was installed., 4 more died.  HP knowing it was a defective nVidia card, kept replacing my System Board with the same defective board.  As a result I do not trust HP, will not buy another HP product, aside from the defective replacement, I received lousy Customer Service as well.  I have spent thousands on HP, no more.

I have a web page that is about HP Products - the Section on the HP PL4260N

drdocyoung . com / computers / HP.html#pl4260n

The following from my notes when researching these replacement boards

Replacement Parts through BestBuy.com Bestbuy.Partsearch.com

HP PL4260N

PANASONIC (MATSUSHITA)     TNPA3243AB-PA     PC BOARD     $110.37     $0.00     $110.37     Out of Stoc
PANASONIC (MATSUSHITA)     TNPA3242-PA PC BOARD SUB      $120.95     $0.00     $120.95     Not Stocked

New over $400 each for the TNPA3243AB-PA $413.95

and

TNPA3242-PA boards $444.95 = $858.90

or Recycled - TNPA3243AB-PA is $162.95

and

TNPA3242-PA is $146.95 = $309.90

The following is From another person who has/had the same issue as us

Senior case rep number: 877-917-4380 ext. 79   I explained the issue, and they took care of it promptly!! HP mailed out my YSUS, and scheduled the repair person...however, HP did swear to it that my problem was not the same as the "Free Fix" offer and I was on my own if the YSUS didn't fix it.... The random repair guy showed up some 4 days later.... took 10 minutes to put the new board in and the issue was fixed!!!.

    TNPA3242AB    PC BOARD

This is an alternative to Panasonic part TNPA3242-PA
Direct Replacement Manufacturers may offer a Direct Replacement when their original part is unavailable. This new part can always be used in place of the original.

Recycled parts are harvested from returned products. These parts are in perfect working order and guaranteed to perform to the same standards as original parts.

$146.95

TNPA3243AB, PC BOARD, This is an alternative to Panasonic part TNPA3243AB-PA $162.95

$310

I personally am not crazy about spending good money after inferior products, and lousy customer service, not to mention the time invested in resolving an issue not of my doing.
