Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just went out, still have sound

Replacement Parts through Best Buy Parts Search

New over $400 each for the TNPA3243AB-PA $413.95 and TNPA3242-PA boards $444.95 = $858.90

or Recycled - TNPA3243AB-PA is $162.95 and TNPA3242-PA is $146.95 = $309.90

I need to research to see which board affects no picture.  I am hoping I do not have to buy both boards. D.O.N.O.T.B.U.Y.H.P.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

As we all are tired of hearing, sorry to hear this...and as you would have it, my HP dv6000z laptop I purchased special order from HP Apr 2007, has died the 4th time...it is on its 4th system board, counting the one it came with, it went down twice in July 09, so for a whole month no laptop....then the HP TV goes down in Oct and now the dv6000 went down again, just got off with Live Chat Tech support....waiting on the shipping box and paper work to send it in.

Wonder never cease when you own an HP and here I own 5 of them....and of course all you ever hear from HP is sorry for your inconvenience, here is your service/ticket number...and besides the issues with HP, you have Microsoft Windows and all of its frustration too.

Oh well tomorrow is another day, how many more HP products will go down.....Doc  D.O.N.O.T.B.U.Y.H.P.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I have the red flare issue. I also have a flickering of the picture that is accompanied by a ghosting image. Case management told me that it is the controller board.   I have been disgusted by Hewlett Packards response to the issue.

I received a call from “Louis” of the case management department, HP televisions regarding my complaint on my television.  After I described my problem with my PL4260N television, he decided that my problem was a controller board that was not covered by an extended warranty.  He admitted that this model of TV had a known defect in the Ysus board, but since I had waited too long, I would not be covered and my only recourse was to pay 629 dollars for a service call that MIGHT fix the problem.

I take exception to this on many levels.

First, how can he diagnose the problem based upon my limited explanation of the appearance of my picture.  I tell him that the picture flickers, has a ghost image, red sparkles, and he says “it does not sound like the Ysus board”.  How can you diagnose a visual problem without a technician ever looking at it?

Second, Hewlett Packard shipped defective televisions with a defect that should have been caught by extended life testing.  I paid 2100 dollars for this TV from Best Buy.  I think it is a reasonable expectation that even if it is the controller board, it should last for more than 1 year.

This is an excerpt from the Nevada Revised Statues:

NRS 104.2315  Implied warranty: Fitness for particular purpose.  Where the seller at the time of contracting has reason to know any particular purpose for which the goods are required and that the buyer is relying on the seller’s skill or judgment to select or furnish suitable goods, there is unless excluded or modified under the next section an implied warranty that the goods shall be fit for such purpose.

Under the implied warranty, the television that I purchased was not fit for the purpose of a television.  It is reasonable to expect that a television should provide a clear picture of a broadcast for the specified life of that television.

Third, my research on how to resolve this problem did not indicate that Hewlett Packard had performed due diligence to notify consumers of a defective product.  My research has turned up evidence of similar controller board complaints.  When I pointed this out to “Louis” he said “well the odds are that you will find some”.  When I asked him information regarding just what those are were, he refused to answer on the grounds it was proprietary.

I do not consider this matter resolved.  My recourse will be to file complaints with every consumer protection agency I can, detailing Hewlett Packard’s selling of defective products.  I will post the details of this problem in every internet venue that I can find.

I desire that someone contact me to discuss refurbishment of my television at no cost to me.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

You are absolutely correct about HP's attitude and treatment of the consumer.  Unless we the consumer can ban together and file a class action lawsuit, then those who have issue with HP after hours of frustration trying to get compensated for a known defect fall by the wayside of disgust and giving up, nothing will be done.

What would be interesting to know is, when was it determined to be a defective component, less than a year from manufacture.  And then once they knew, they said, well if it happens, we will deal with one on one.

And for me, this is not the first defective HP product....my Apr 2007 HP Laptop dv6000 just shipped out yesterday for its 5th system board.  And I was fortunate to have gotten the extended warranty, only because the 1st systemboard went down 3 weeks from the year warranty.

However you look at it, if you were to buy the extended warranty before the deadline, means you are paying for protection of a known defective component.  The inconvienence of down time, lifting the 98 lb dead weight to have looked at or taken to a repair facility and then how long does the next board last.  As you have it, one of the system boards lasted 3 days...so I had to repeat calling, going through did you do this, try this etc. and then receive your case number and wait for the shipping container.

And lets say you did get the warranty in time, 1, 2, 3, or 4 yr?  I paid after 11 months for a 4 yr extended warranty only to get 3 yrs, since one year had passed.  That sucked big time...so here I paid $500, now on the 5th system board, will each board keep failing due to a defect and then eventually the extended warranty runs out...any way you look at it, you paid more for the TV in first place, you are the one who has been inconvienenced all for what, being a consumer, while HP laughs or gives you attitude about something not your fault.

Now my HP PL4260N sits on the floor, I am out $2000 or I can look at is as I rented for 3 yrs the Plasma for $1.86 a day.  If the TV lasted less, then your daily rate went up...so if this is how HP products plan to last 1-3 years, you are better off renting a TV or do as I did, bought a 24" LCD for $260...at that price I can buy 7..which will last me 4 years longer than the HP PLCRAP.

And who knows, maybe by next year I can get a 52 in LCD for $300 and have it last longer.  I believe more can be done by not buying HP Products...obviously they do not listen to the consumer or care.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I couldn't help but laugh as I read this thread....a laughter of disgust and realization that I am going through the same problem as everyone else.  My tv made that infamous popping sound two nights ago, then commenced to blank out on me as I was babysitting a 4 year-old and 5 year-old.  Needless to say, all were unhappy; the girls did not get to finish their movie, my husband and I were left to scratch our head as to how our three-year-old plasma crapped out on us.  Lo and behold, after thorough researching, it is because we purchased an HP.

Like everyone else before me in this thread, my husband and I have been HP customers for a long time now: 2 laptops, 2 printers, this tv currently.  Although we have not contacted customer service just yet, I guarantee that if HP cannot remedy its faulty equipment they will lose a valued customer.

At 29 years old, I can promise you that I still have plenty of purchasing years ahead of me.

BTW, big thanks to bamacasher!  I have a feeling I will be contacting PTS electronics soon.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Which is the YSUS board as there are two of them?

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3243AB-PA     PC BOARD     $110.37

PANASONIC (MATSU**bleep**A)     TNPA3242-PA          PC BOARD SUB      $120.95

Boards are not repaired but replaced, not all components are made by the same OEM, nor does HP make them.  My HP dv6000z laptop purchased 7 Apr 2007, just went to HP for the 5th systemboard

Replacement Parts through Best Buy Parts Search which are Recycled boards - TNPA3243AB-PA is $162.95 and TNPA3242-PA is $146.95 = $309.90

Yeah, that was a big help. For everyone having the issue with the 42" TV PL4260N picture going out, PLEASE send a report into the Better Business Bureau. This thread is longer than any other thread on this board...you'd think someone from HP would be waking up at this point and reply. Sure, I understand it is a "peer-to-peer" type of support forum, but our only solutions are to get repairs outside of HP, submit formal compaints to consumer watchdog groups about HP, and ultimately shop for future products outside of HP.

Looking over their forum mottos again, we're "connecting" over the pain of this major problem, and we're "collaborating" to refer people to other computer products and services. Our whole "conversation" is around this gigantic FAILURE by HP. I'm surprised there's not a lawsuit already. Oh wait, there is! But the moderators keep deleting the link.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

We have the same tv, but ours is doing the flickering, ghost image thing?!?!?  Anyone know what that's all about, because it's really annoying!?  Another 3 yr. old tv bites the dust?  My husband is wanting to buy a new tv.  I've always defended hp, but I won't that mistake, again!  I just think we paid way too much for only 3 yrs.  That's just crazy!!!!!!!
