Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I put a new topic in this forum. But then I saw this subject. I'm not sure if we have a similar problem. Same TV. Only had it 2 years. HP won't do anything. Except of course, the $629. The TV actually comes on to the "HP" logo and that's it! It won't turn off, it won't turn on. We have to unplug it. We don't want to get rid of it after paying so much for a TV! We are furious that it only lasted 2 years!

HP tech support told me it was "one of the boards" that could cost between $200-$400. Considering that its the same model that everyone else is having trouble with, does anyone know how we could tell if its the Y SUS board? We'd try replacing it ourselves if we could get the $132 part from PTS. Its just the problem seems a little different (we don't have sound either). Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I too have a HP PL4260N bought June 2006.  So far no problems but it appears I should be prepared.  I have noted the PTS source for parts.  For those of you have talked to them is the repair using the same questionable part or have they found a better solution and the fix should be long lasting?  Something to keep in mind is that while this was an expensive high end TV a few years ago a similar (but newer with better specs and features) 42" Panasonic plasma TV can be bought for under $600. That's less than the HP repair.  For someone planning on doing the repair themselves you might find the service manual handy for removing and replacing parts.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I am about to just fall off of my chair going through all of these posts on how I was taken just like everyone else with my HP PL4260N 42" Plasma!!  My husband and I bought this TV Sept of 2007 and like 4 weeks ago we were in another room, while I had it paused off of my DVR and heard a loud pop!  We went to investigate and saw that the screen was black.  We still didn't think anything like the TV went out, but needless to say after several minutes of turning off and on and plugging and unplugging, come to find out that it was the TV!  Now I come on hear and other forums and see that just about 90% of consumers like us are experiencing this nightmare together!  HP should be ashamed of themselves and this is totally unacceptable!  I just found the phone number to this PTS Electronics place and was told that the Y SUS part board or whatever would have to be shipped to them and that it will be rebuilt because they are out of new ones I guess!  I am a bit apprehensive about that but it would only be $113.00+ shipping, I guess we should give it a try.  I just do not want to put my TV out in the back garbage like nothing!!  We are very disgusted by this whole deal..  HP will never have to worry about this consumer buying anything else from them.  I have also joined in the class action lawsuit against this product!

Well I have to say, part came back from PTS yesterday and I installed it and MY TV IS WORKING AGAIN!!!!!!!!! Yeah PTS, I have no idea about longevity but right now I will praise their name. It ran $135.00 for everything and they freeze an additional $50.00 for their protection but everything with them went smoothly and perfectly. I wish to share my regards to Bamacrasher & Liquid and to PTS. I hate having to be put through this by HP but I must say discovering this forum, taking bama/liquids advice, and using PTS has been such a great help. I was watching TV again last night like it never happened. So the end score PTS 100 HP 0 and I will make sure everyone I talk to know the score.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Glad PTS is making other former HP customers happy.  Two more things:

1.  Just an update.  My HP is still workings since PTS repaired my board on 9/2/09 (knock on wood).

2.  Remember that PTS doesn't sell Y SUS boards.  They only repair yours if you send it to them.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

The same thing happened to me a few months back and my TV has just been sitting in the other room.  To think how much money we spent on that thing!!!!!!!  It's useless...or so I thought!  I'm going to try to get that electronics company to fix mine as well and I will report how it goes.  Thanks for all the info.  I am so upset with HP!!!  Is there anything we can do (legally) about this situation?  I think it's ironic that HP lets us trash them on their own website....they deserve it though.  I hope their stock goes down and they crash out....a little harsh, but they shouldn't have KNOWINGLY screwed us over!

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Thank you for all the help here.  I've had a similar experience to all of the above posters with the exception that when I OHM out the fuses on my boards I find a bad one.

Now I'm being told that the 109352-HS fuse kit for the model is "no longer orderable"  Hp is sending a clear message that they have no intention of standing by this product.  SO now for the want of a 2 cent fuse this 1600.00 paper weight will sit on the floor of my office for awhile before i get mad(er) and dispose of it.

If anyone has an ideas where i could get a t4ah250vp fuse please let me know.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Electronics stores will carry the 4 amp / 250 volt fuse, however if your TV is like mine it blew the fuse and the board at the same time. Replacing the fuse will not get your picture back. I hope for your sake I am wrong.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

my issue just began yesterday and I'm curious if this is the same as others.....purchased my HP4260N about 2 1/2 years ago, had been working great till yesterday morning when all of a sudden a black blotch appeared covering the left side of the screen and the rest of the picture became very dimmed and distorted.  is this a similar problem to what others are describing and what has been the repair of choice?  from what i'm reading it sounds like contacting HP will prove pointless....
