Hey you all... I have a similar problem, but my picture still works. I just can't keep the source selected to the correct one. The menu keeps popping up and scrolling by itself through all the difference source options, even while the tv may be on the correct source and displaying my cable channel. I went to Fixya and they told me my IC board may be out. Is this the same as the YSUS board? Or is this a totally different beast? If so, anyone know where to pick one up?

Based on your successful experience fixing your PL4260N, we shipped our defective y-sus board to PTS, and just received the repaired board back today. After installing it -- and before screwing the back onto the unit -- we plugged it in (blue power lights came on), however, the screen is still black. Do you know if there's a safety feature requiring the tv to be put back together for the tv to boot up? The only other thing I can think of that may be causing the problem is the broken connection between what appears to be a flimsy piece of electrostatic discharge tape on the edge of the Y-sus board, which connects to an adjacent board on the unit. Apparently, the tiny connector that holds the flat flimsy tape in place broke off, so we can't clamp the tape into place properly (we tried to duck tape it, hoping it would do the trick). Do you have any idea what that tape is for -- i.e., is it the key to the picture working?
Any help would be appreciated. If we can't get the tv to work now, it's $132 down the drain.

The SAME THING HAPPENED TODAY TO MY TV!!!
I am no electronical genious but i can say that all the things i read that the same tv that i have just went
out is bull. HP should do something about this but they are probably just sitting around in Japan or wherever
laughing and drinking...............
Is it the small board in the panel behind the tv?
Or do i have to take apart the entire back of the tv?

I've got the same problem. I stumbled across this post when I was googling the parts. Wish I'd found this post months ago.
The sad thing is I bought this TV because at the time it was the highest recommended plasma for it's size from Consumer Reports. CR raved about the sound on this TV. Wish CR said something about the picture or looked into it a little more.
The kids were watching it one day and the picture just went away. Over 6 months ago I contacted HP and got what seems like the standard answer. For 6 + months I've been using the little dark TV downstairs or watching Hulu on the computer upstairs because I couldn't afford the fix on my plasma TV. The dead TV upstairs fills the space in the entertainment center. It looks like it would be great for watching football games.
I've been looking at buying the parts new and that's not a cost effective option. I could buy a smaller LCD TV for the price of the new parts. Thank you for the information about PTS. I'll give that a try.
Sounds like people sometimes have trouble taking this board out and putting it back in again. Has anybody seen any written instructions that explain (or show) how to replace the board? That might be useful to post here. I'll need help replacing the board myself, but if nothing else, maybe I can document how to do this and post the instructions here to make it easier for people trying to do the replacement? I'll take a stab at it.
For what it's worth, I think HP still has a lot of great products and people who care a lot about trying to help people. A lot of HP employees put in many hours of personal time trying to make a difference on this site helping people.

I called PTS Electronics today at 812-824-9331 (their website suggests you call 800-844-7871). I spoke to Kelly. She was very helpful, but said anybody at their number can help.
Kelly said that you do not need to call first to get a return authorization. To get the YSUS Board fixed, you need to remove yours and send it to the following address:
2000 S. Liberty Dr
Bloomington, IN 47403
When you ship in, you should include a letter with the following information:
Your Mailing Address
Your Phone Number
Payment info for the $122.60 to repair the board. If you want to pay with a credit card, note that in your letter and that you want them to call you. They'll call you to get your credit card info when they receive your board.
She suggested shipping via UPS and insuring the part when you ship it.
I learned some new things when I spoke to her. If you'd prefer to replace the board in your printer, you can use one of the following alternate parts to replace the YSUS board:

Out of the three alternate replacement parts, the only one they currently have available is the Toshiba part. They have it listed at $254 (I thought Kelly said $268 - maybe with shipping?) with a core value of $65 that you'll get back if you ship them your broken part. That leaves you paying roughly $200. Having them fix my part seems like a better option to me. Kelly also said that all these parts for the HP TV are refurbished parts - none of them are new - that's why they want you to send them your broken part. I plan to look and see if I can find other places that sell these alternate parts.

I found this post on another forum. I have no idea if this will work, but it sounds good. I don't think I've got the knowledge to fix this using these instructions, but I'm guessing these might help people people who are more into electronics than I am. Anybody else have the tools or skills to validate these instructions?
"I repaired a PL4260N model by changing a IC which was short-circuited, located in the Y-Sus PWB. Its located below a Heat Sink. In the solder side of Y-Sus PWB, it have labels with Vs, Gnd, 15V, etc. If you have a Multimeter, make sure if there is a short-circuit between Vs-gnd. Okay, I have been too busy to fix our broken tv. I saw in a previous post that we have to take the whole back off in order to get to the Y board. Can someone explain to me how we do that?? At first, I took off the small rectangle in the back to find nothing labeled the Y board; came back to this discussion board to find that that was a mistake. Took out most of the screws surrounding the back of the tv, and still nothing is loosening up. What am I doing wrong?? I will apppreciate any help I can get.

It wasn't a mistake to take off the small rectangle in the back. It's just not the only thing you must do. You have to also remove the screws for the TV mount. They're 4 large ones used to install a wall mount.
BTW, don't you feel a little embarrassed that you're having to get help from a message board instead of your employer? And, are you bringing it to their attention?

Ok so it's been awhile and TV is still purring (knock on wood). Anyway I see we have had a few more victims. I can't remember 100% my process but I will try and give it a shot.
As for the letter you send to PTS I actually went into Word and made an actual packing slip with a ton of information. However I did not include any of my credit card info and just waited until I saw the package was received (through tracking number) and then contacted them to put my card on file. Also I was told to make sure the thing was packaged like someone was going to play football with it. I guess it can be handled roughly when sending it to them...go figure lol.
Anyway as for the removal of the part...yes remove everything from the back of the TV, the small rectangle piece, all the screws around the edge. The few screws near all the component plugs and as bam said you have to remove the giant screws from the back where the mount would go. Or in my case it's the screws that hold the handles on.
Then I removed the screws for the piece that goes along the bottom of the TV above the component plug ins so that I had better access to the board. I didn't disconnect anything but just moved it slightly out of the way. The YSUS board is on the left side and sits roughly under the metal beam that runs up that side of the TV. You have to remove I think it was 5 brass screws from the board as well as the small ribbon on the bottom right corner. Again, removing the long piece partially blocking the board helps with removing this ribbon. As mentioned previously in the thread there is a small long plastic gate like bar that you have to flip up to be able to remove the ribbon. It isn't that hard you just have to be very gentle as not to break it. Then slide the ribbon out and at that point you pull the board to the right away from the 2 connectors on the left side of the board.
And viola you are done. I did wear a static wrist guard that you can get for like 4$ at Radio Shack while doing all of this and of course make sure not to use a magnetic screwdriver just in case. As for putting it back in just reverse the steps. And that ribbon probably means something since almost everything in there does something to the TV. So be careful and don’t fear doing it but just be mindful of what you are doing.

We have an HP 50" PL5072N and the picture went out 2 months ago. Similar problem to everyone posting here about the PL4260N. We have sound, but only the top half of the picture is displayed, the lower half is black. I've looked around on other forums, and can't seem to find specific help on the PL5072N. Just wonder if perhaps the problem is related between models, and if maybe replacying the Y SUS board may do the trick.
I'm willing to give anything a try other than giving HP another $600 of my hard earned money. They already have $1200, and I'd like not to make any more donations.
