Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Thank you SOO much for your post about PTS Electronics. I did just as you said, sent the board off to them (after I broke the ribbon cable connector but they installed a new one for no extra charge), installed it about two weeks later and WALLAH!! TV works like new. $135 total including shipping both ways. And, HP got not one dime extra of my money!

POWER OF THE INTERNET, and good people like you!

THANKS AGAIN

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

i too have a 3 year old HP LCD.  too lazy to get up and write the size --actual picture is about 29".  anyway--same prob!

except we get no sound either. electrician confirms TV 'gets power,"  but, no pic ( or sound)

based on reading all this guess i'll contact PTS electronics too.

thanks community

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

I emailed Mr. Hurd and the board of directors of HP and they actually called me back.  They said "We are sorry about this situation, but there is nothing we can do.  What can we do to keep you as an HP customer?"  I said "FIX MY TV!!!!"

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Resurrecting and updating this thread.

I just got done with the wholly unsatisfactory process of dealing with HP.  I have the maldischarge which has been linked to the controller board.  HP Customer service thumbed their nose at me.  I filed with the BBB of San Jose and they opened a file, but closed it when HP customer service replied that I was out of warranty, so it did not matter that my product was defective.

HP knowingly sold me a defective product!

I'm tired of dealing with it.  I've ordered a new TV and will never buy another HP product.  I'd like to dump the old TV on Hurd's front lawn.  What would HP do if we all dumped the useless TV's on their doorstep?

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

From the 1930's movie Frankenstein: "It's alive. It's ALIVE!" By golly, it has been resurrected from the dead.

After 4 months of procrastination and baby preparations, my husband and I finally got the tv fixed. A BIIIIIGGG thanks to bamacasher for providing us with the infomation about PTS. Why pay HP nearly $700 to fix their mistake when we can have PTS take care of it for $133?! I pity the fool who goes with HP.

Also, a humongous GRACIAS to liquidsasquatch for creating this thread. If it were not for you, my husband and I, and many others like us, would have had no solution to this problem!! You rock!

By the way, did someone think that I was an employee of HP? Pffft. No way. But I accept sympathy from you all for I am a 6th grade teacher. :smileywink:

I guess that was me.  I'm not sure why I thought you worked for HP.  Sorry.  Glad the TV works.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

Hi all-

Long-time listener, first-time caller.  I just brought my sister's broken HP PL5060N (50" version of the PL4260N) into my shop and started looking for info on the internet.  I've read most of your posts.  I'd like to thank you all for being persistent.  Your posts add up to a lot of information that I can use to fix her set.

I dug around on the 'net looking for the official HP service manual for these sets.  One post to the forum mentioned that HP at one time had the manual on the support site, free to download.  It is no longer there.  I searched the 'net under the three product ids: PL5060N, EK430AA and CPTOH-0603.  Found nothing.  Then I searched for "EK430AA match to LG", since this TV was manufactured by LG.  I got a hit, and found the service manual.  Some kind soul has taken the time to upload it to scribd.com, the internet repository for all kinds of info.  Here's the site.  The manual might help some of you to determine what's the basic problem.  Also, MCM Electronics has 100K+ service parts for LG electronics, so if you run into a part that others don't have, you might try them.

Re: 42" TV PL4260N - picture just sent out, still have sound

[ Edited ]

Hi bvsmith 1953,

Any luck with your PL5060N TV?  I'm still working on mine.  About 4 months ago half of picture went out, the bottom half.  So only the top picture shows.  Sound is still there, but the picture problem persists, and it happens with all inputs.  I sent the YSUS circuit board to PTS for inspection, they are currently tinkering with it right now.

What symptons was your TV experiencing?

42" TV PL4260N - Troubleshooting Help PLEASE

I seem to have same problem as everybody else - i.e. audio fine but no picture.  One 4A fuse each blown on BOTH the YSUS and the ZSUS board.  No evidence of obvious physical damage anywhere in TV.  Quick resistence check on power inputs to both boards shows high resistence between VS and GND on YSUS but on ZSUS VS and GND looks shorted.

Any advice on what to do in this situation?  Is it possible that JUST the ZSUS board failed and somehow caused fuse to blow on YSUS as well, OR is it more likely that BOTH boards are bad at this point.  If anybody has experience with this I sure would appreciate hearing back from you.

THANKS VERY MUCH - Mike Z
