I have a problem transferring small photo images from my HP Mediasmart Home Server to my Dreamscreen 130 via the HP DreamScreen PC Software.
Seems I have narrowed the problem down to get a failure only when a jpg file is being dragged from the server sharepoint availble to the PC and dropped to the DreamScreen PC software. IF the file is around 30kb it will always fail, if around 100k it will always transfer. When it fails, everything is normal until after the filename and progress bar at the bottom appear. Nothing further happens, no errors and no progress. I am able to cancel out and return to the drag and drop here message, then drag the larger file.
Now the crazy part. If I copy the same small file to the local machine, I can drag and drop them both as designed.
The same results are achieved from multiple PC operatins systems, XP, Win7-32 and Win7-64. I tried a shared drive on another machine to eliminate any issues in the MediaSmart.
I am hoping someone here can help out, since I have found HP Support totally rediculous. I spent 2-3 hours on the first two calls and they could not get their VMware remote desktop tool working. I later spent another two hours with an agent who was able to get connected and verify the problem. She said she would need to escalate this issue to another group. After several days I got a message asking if the problem was fixed. When I called back the (different) agent had no history of my case and wanted to start all over again. The Supervisor was in a meeting, no others were available and she would not escalate. Then the call mysteriously dropped!
I firmly believe this problem is in HP's weak and half-baked software, but I want to get this thing past Tier 1 to someone at HP that can actually see the problem. After all, this is two of HP's flagship home media products that should work well together.
Can anybody replicat the problem with their DreamScreen?

I attempted to drag and drop an 9k image from a NAS drive and get the same results, just sits at 0%.
So you are not alone.

The PC Software only supports drag and drop from the PC it is installed on. Currently there is no support for communication from the DreamScreen to a NAS. Sorry.

Interesting answer, there! Can you provide any documentation that says NAS transfer is not supported? Please don't use the 'ole not supported line on this! I am still working with the HP support desk on this, and they confirmed that network storage transfer IS supported and they have escalated it to the next leve..
Meanwhile, the frustration continues. Someone started calling me back to see if the problem was fixed, but did not find any notes of all the work we have already done. I finally humored her and described the problem again, and we are restoring the configuration to factory default.

I would have to ask where does it say a Network Attached Storage device is supported. The online FAQ does speak to network devices, http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam

I had a 350kb (1600x1200) file work but a 398kb (1024x768) fail? Just strange.
I had no problems drag and drop an entire directory of large (3+ meg, 3456x2304 pixels) images (695megs. I understand they are going to be downsized by the software.) in one motion (194 images). Took some time, lol.
FAQ:
"Can I access my media files that are stored on a network drive (such as the HP media vault)?

A bit of proggress at last. I finally got beyond the totally worthless level 1 support group from the beyond and spoke with a level 2 tech today. He was great, knew how a computer works and everything. Even lives in the good ole US of A. I probably have about 5 hours of cellphone time tied up in this bug by now.
He saw the problem, documented it and it is on the way to the Dream Team. He agrees that it is a problem in the software. Maybe we will see a bug fix in the next release of software.
Until then, the workaround is not too bad, just need to drag everyhthing to the local desktop, then to the DreamScreen when loading from a network share.
Another interesting discovery. After a failed transfer, if you connect to the DreamScreen with a USB cable and browse the directory, there is a zero byte file with the corresponding name and timestamp of the failed file. It appears that the process is to copy the file in the root of the DreamScreen, then process the file to the appropriate folder (Photo, Video or Music) and delete the temporary file. Since the file does not complete the copy process, it leaves the artifact behind.
After seeing some of the other comments in this forum, I think I know where they got the product name from now. I can only Dream that it works. I just can't wait to start trying to stream to this thing.
